Can I incrementally download emails from server?

Yes you can download without deleting or with deleting, your choice.

You can also look at whats on the server and delete anything you want too.

-mark for download

-mark for download with delete

-mark fot delete only

-make it so.

I presently have a very large number of emails in my inbox of a web-based provider. I want to download them into Pegasus, but do not want to do so in one download. What I'd like to do is download a certain number at one time. I've already tried selective mail download but for some reason, the headers quit downloading somewhere along the line.

I also tried just downloading, and then cancelling part way through. That worked fine in that it downloaded the messages until I cancelled, but it did not delete the messages off the server. (I read up and see that the messages are removed at the end of a successful download session).

Any ideas as to a way to either (1) troubleshoot the selective mail download; or (2) figure out some other way to incrementally retrieve emails with those retrieved being deleted off the server?

 Thanks. John.

Tools, Internet options, Download Controls. Set max number to download to something like 50 to download in batches. You can't control whether they are the 50 oldest or newest messages, that is controlled by the mail server. Make sure have set to delete successfully downloaded messages.

Sorry for taking a while to respond. Couldn't figure out how to "reply." Finally figured out that the email link notifying me took me to the thread but did not log me in.

Anyhow, thank you very much for the advice. It was very helpful to me. Before I try that, since you say one can't control the sequence downloaded, I'm still trying to figure out a way to work around it, but if I can't, I'll certainly do what you suggest.

What I've done so far is: (1) tools > mail filtering rules > create edit pop rule set. Then, used the "If message date is between [date 1] and [date 2] download. (2) Then, I went to internet options > receiving pop3 > edit > download controles [which I learned from you] -- where I put in the name of the pop filtering rules I created in (1).

Tried that but for some reason the emails after the 2nd date specified kept downloading. Went back and looked at the Download Controls tab and noticed a section labeled "Default action for messages still present after filtering." It was set on "Download." I figured that was telliing it to select between the 2 dates specified and then download the messages remaining. I changed it to "Leave on server," figuring it would download messages between the dates selected and leave the remaining messages on the server.

However, when I tried it, absolutely nothing downloaded. So, that's where I am now, scratching my head and trying to figure out how the logical expected actions did not happen and what to do to fix it.

Any ideas? And, again, thank you very much. Your input helped this novice to get this far.

Yes Peggy lets you look on the server to see what is there and you can even delete or download without deleting off the server.  It is a very handy feature.

file/selective mail download/ see options presented.

I often delete spam from my second machine or download without deleting so i can download again on my main machine.
