So stunnel seems to run correctly. In case it is needed I generated a certificate.

I checked the forum and altho some post are written about this I didn't find a solution.

I try to use direct ssl, so to receive, port 995 and to sent port 465. In gmail pop is activated.

In the TCP trace I find when trying to receive:

--- Wed, 07 Aug 2013 13:06:15 ---

Connect to 'pop.gmail.com' port 995, timeout 30.

13:06:16.542 [*] Connection established to 173.194.65.109

13:06:16.659 22: Error -14 activating SSL session (locus 6014, type 4, '')

13:06:16.660 --- Connection closed normally at Wed, 07 Aug 2013 13:06:16. ---\0A\0A

I tried different types of certificate option even no certificate without any result.

I verified with my ISP if there wasn't some port blocking, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

As a test I tried also with Mozilla mail. I can sent and receive mail then.

The difference I see with Pmail is about the SSL definition.

SeaMonkey mail permits direct ssl with normal password, which is what I used for the test.

I don't see this option in Pmail, only things about a certificate.

I don't know what I have to put for the certificate, but even with the option without certificate I don't get the mail.

Browsing the internet on the error message doesn't give much of a clue either.

Unless I can use direct ssl with normal password, I don't see how I can use Pmail retrieving and sending gmail mail.

Any idea?

POP3 to gmail is working here using direct SSL, no certificate tracking.  You might try creating a new POP3 host from scratch.

For gmail SMTP I use STARTTLS, port 587, have certificate fingerprint tracking enabled, and use the second option for SMTP authentication.

Below is the log content of a recent POP3 connection.  I notice the server IP address is different than the one you hit.  I don't know whether your problem could be related to that specific server.

Thank you for your kind answer.

I created a new user gmail1

Only direct ssl is ticked, nothing else.

I have the same error message.

Also I tried your pop server IP instead of pop.gmail.com

This gives:

--- Wed, 07 Aug 2013 17:13:10 ---

Connect to '173.194.71.108' port 995, timeout 30.

17:13:10.985 [*] Connection established to 173.194.71.108

17:13:10.132 --- Connection closed normally at Wed, 07 Aug 2013 17:13:10. ---\0A\0A

So it seems that there is still a problem initiating the ssl session.

Are you using Avast! anti-virus?  IIRC, Avast! blocks SSL so you need to configure allowed SSL accounts in the Mail Shield settings.

Good question about the anti-virus.

As I work in Linux I don't have one active.

As for Pmail, I run it in wine. And in Wine I don't have an anti-virus either.

I don't know anything about Linux or Wine so don't know if something special is required to allow SSL.  Hopefully a Wine knowledgeable user will post with some insight.

Brian, thank you for your intervention.

As it works with Mozilla mail, in plain Linux, this linux has the ssl support.

And it is my understanding that Wine benefits from all kind of support from the linux it runs on.

Hope indeed that someone using wine and pmail has tried to work with gmail.

It might help to start a new thread about Wine related issues ...

Michael, As I didn't find a section for wine and pmail, I posted here.

Will change the subject and add Wine

I can't get this to work either. Even the late Mr Thomas Stephenson, who knew an awful lot about both Windows and Linux and Wine seemed unable to resolve this issue, as far as I can remember. It's a real bummer, because I'll be migrating one of my machines that's running Win XP to Linux Mint xfce shortly (at least by April when Microsoft's for XP support stops) and won't be able to run Pegasus on it, despite Wine :-(

I found following post in the forum about wine and pmail and ssl

So I went to the referenced bug description in WineHQ Bugzilla

I installed stunnel, which is at 4.56 and configured for only the client server part for pop and smtp.

I still have an error on ssl, but different now.

The pmail trace when trying to get mail in pmail shows:

Obviously I didn't remember correctly... I'll soon give this a try and see what happens. Thanks for your input!
