For the sake of future searches I'm posting the solution to this problem.

At the suggestion of Michael I installed the latest version of IERenderer but it didn't provide a solution. In passing, Michael also suggested that we look at the registry to make sure that FireFox had been correctly registered so I then removed FireFox and did a clean re-installation. This solved the problem.

I've been using (and recommending) Pegasus for longer than I care to remember and have never previously had an issue that I couldn't resolve  -  it just 'works'!

I recently supplied a new Toshiba Satelite Pro with Windows 7 Professional (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601) and migrated the customer's mail apparently without problem but after a few days I had a call saying that clicking on hyperlinks opened Windows Explorer showing the desktop rather than FireFox. Not having seen this problem before I did a Google search and found 4 posts to this forum on 5th September 2012 which described the problem but without resolution. The last post by [idw]  - Michael (I presume) asked for more information from the originator but there seems to have been no response.

Using the little information I found there, I removed V4.63 and installed V4.61 but that crashed as soon as I tried to turn on [Preview mode] - so I couldn't see the hyperlink to test it. The current situation is that V4.63 is (ostensibly) working but hyperlinks always open Windows Explorer.

I've already un-ticked the [Incoming Mail][Hyperlinks][Find Browser automatically] and specified the [Web Browser commandline] explicitly to the location of FireFox.

Copy and paste is not an option since many of the links don't provide anything more than an 'alias'.

Any pointers to a resolution would be most appreciated.

I've never hear of this problem before, so this is going to be a shot in the dark. I'm thinking, though, that it may be something related to Windows 7 rather than Pegasus. I've checked my [Dutch] Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) here at work, and saw something in Control Panel, something that probably translates into English as Default programs. Perhaps there are some settings there that you can fiddle with. You may also want to check out Associating a file type or protocoal with a specific program (my translation). Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestion Steffan. I'm aware of the 'Default Programs' option and FireFox is already set as the default for all file-types it can handle. On my own Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit system (and all the other 32bit systems I have an interest in) the problem does not show, so I'm thinking that it might have something to do with the 64bit version   -  but cannot imagine what.

Another shot in the dark then: Does the pmail.ini file actually contain a line that looks like this:

Web browser commandline                   = C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

(in two sections of the .ini file)

Because the Laptop is 'Remote'  -  ie. at my customer's site  -  I'll have to await her availability before I can check that.

It would actually be P:\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe but I understand your point. I've left a message on her answerphone so expect her to get back to me later today.

Does ist happen with all hyperlinks or only certain ones - in which latter case I would like to get an unmodified sample message (CNM file from the new mail folder or attached to a message), preferably to "beta-reports[@]pmail.gen.nz" with a proper subject so I don't dismiss it as spam.

ALL hyperlinks produce the same result  -  well the dozen or so that I tried did.

As suggested by Steffan, I've just checked the pmail.ini file and can confirm that there is a correct entry for the location of firefox.exe

I doubt that this will be useful but for the sake of leaving no stone unturned I'm sending an e-mail with the subject line 'Hyperlink Failure' to beta-reports... with one of the offending .CNM files. It does throw up the 'Lazy HTML' warning on my system but (as expected) correctly opens my browser.

Check menu Tools/Options  and select Content Viewers  Select .Htm and click edit, ensure that "Letting Windows choose.." is not checked, but rather enter your browser of choice. Repeat for .Html  and any others you might run into like .Aspx
