Automatic renaming of folders to "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii"

I also experienced the issue reported by Joerg once. In my case, I had copied (not moved!) a bunch of folders to a different location and then added them using the "Add mailbox to list..." function, which, basically, resulted in duplicate folders. I also saw the folders with these funny names then.

Hi Guys,

Our environment:

- Pmail v4.63 german

- Pmail Link on each computer desktop is starting the winpm-32.exe from a network drive (one installation folder for all clients)

- Full integration of Pmail with Mercury v4.74 which is also permanently running at the server.

Yestetday one of our user experienced the following. A subfolder in his folder structure has been moved to the end of his folder tree and has been renamed from "Eingang 2013" to "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii". Further this folder has been duplicated. That means two folders "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" were available one after another. It was unable to rename those folders back to "Eingang 2013".

Finally I have solved this issue by creating a brand new folder where I have copied all messages from one "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" folder to, by drag and drop. Then I have removed the "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" Folder. Further I removed the "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" entries from the HIERARCH.PM and CACHE.PM to avoid that the "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" folders appear again and again.

Has anybody an idea where this issue came from?

Cheers

Joerg

Hallo Jörg,

in very rare cases the HIERARCH.PM is damaged (here it may be once a year in about 200 Pegasus users). It seems this happens, while Pegasus is writing (due to changes to folderstructure) to this file and hanging up or (immediately i.e. due to Windows shutdown) disabled for some reason. Anyway ... the advantage of Pegasus is this file is a simple textfile and may be repaired "offline".

Hallo Olaf,

Thanks for your reply.

Of course, it is an advantage that Pegasus is saving all data in ordinary text files - but you have to be familiar with the meaning of each text line to repair it manually.

You said that such damages happen very rarely. And so I have to deal with such issues very rarely as well. - And so I'm forgetting the experiences again and again  ;-)

Cheers

I don't like automated repair routines. In some cases they have to make suggestions on the way, how some content should look correctly. And in my opinion those routines miss the target much to often.

You're becoming older - aren't you? ;-) Like me ... but as long as I remember where to click to open this forum or where to send a mail on Pegasus, all is good :-)))
