address book key sort

Hmm ... I'm not shure about your problem ...

Initialy Pegasus sorts addressbookentries by name on every opening. If you want them to be sortet by key, you have to click at the columntop. Pegasus does not remember your choice of sortcriteria.

If the entries are mixed up (key doesn't match name), the indexfile of the addressbook is damaged. Simply reindex that addressbook (in the same menue, where you add, delete ... addressbooks.

bye    Olaf

Been using Pegasus since Win 3.1 days without any prob's.

Now on Win 7 pro and pegasus 4.63.

Problem is sorting address book on KEY to keep all family members together works OK.

After closing Pegasus  for the night the next time i open it all address are scramble.

This didn't happen in earlier versions.

How can I fix this please.

Cheers,

Would hazard a guess: the install of Pegasus is placing the file in either a virtual space (c:\users\xxx) or in the Program Files (x86) directory.

The best possible location for Pegasus install for Win7 is c:\pmail or c:\apps\pmail which gets around the Microsoft protection of the program files directory and/or the virtual store location issues.

Search the forum and you will find many discussions of the issues of Win7 install.

good luck

Find PMSORT.EXE in PMail's Programs directory.

$ PMSORT

PMSort: Create address book key-sort file for PMail 3.0
Pegasus Mail System, Copyright (c) 1993, David Harris,
All Rights Reserved.

   Usage:  PMSort <addressbook_file>

Use PMSORT to create static index files sorted by
key for very large address books which DO NOT CHANGE.
The invariance is important, because PMail will use
the key index file but will not maintain it.

$

Find the "Address Book" file pair (.PMR & .PM!) in the Home mailbox location.
[See: Help > About | Info]

At a command prompt do:
  PMSORT "Address Book"
  MOVE "Address Book".PM1 "Address Book".PM!

I do not know if this will work on 64bit OS.
