AW: Pmail with SSL V3 support

Dear Martin Schnabel, [:)]

Thank you for your instructions.  [Y] But this could not be the solution.  I support different people who uses Pmail. Some people are using Pmail for business use with removable devices on different PC where no Pmail is locally installed. Unfortunately some had Strato as webhoster. And Strato will only support SSL V3. These people had not the knowledge and time to use stunnel ore something other. And of couse they cannot install stunnel on a foreign PC……

So the Question is: Can anyone say, when Pmail will support SSL V3 directly?

Regards

Peggy [W]

In germany most providers have change their server connections in the end of 2013 to use only SSL / STARTTLS. There are big providers, who only support encryption over SSL or TLS with SSL Version 3.

If you have a mail client, who does not support SSL V3 you can not connect to their servers any more and get mails. This is a very big problem if you use Pmail......

Is there current any option to use Pmail with SSL V3 ?

regards [W]

No. David Harris is

currently

preparing an intermediate release (4.7x) to address this issue.

As Michael stated a fix and updated version is in testing now but it is going to be a while before possibly ready for release.

There is one other workaround available and has been successfully used by some winpm-32 users. It is the same, or similar, to the problems involved with Verizon ISP and some of their mail servers. There is a very long running thread on that on the Community but the most important is near the end and last three most recent posts.

It involves use of STunnel software which acts as a proxy between winpmail and the mail servers. http://rednoise.vacau.com/pmail-stunnel/

and involves some really geeky stuff of technical nature most users have never had to deal with. You may find the number of users and those having the time to hand hold you thru this may be a problem because the number of users with personal experience with STunnerl is very small.

How much time will it take to the  release (4.7x) with  Pmail SSL V3 support?

Today I got a mail from strato (Webprovider) that they will change komplet to SSL and they will only support SSL Version3 .

This is a very big problem, you can no longer send or get any mails....

Thanks

It works fine with stunnel. Just follow the instructions in Jerry Wise's link and make the following settings in stunnel.conf:

[strato-POP3-SSL]
; SSL connection to Strato's POP3 server for Pegasus
client = yes
accept = 10995
connect = pop3.strato.de:995

[strato-smtp-SSL]
; SSL connection to Strato's SMTP server for Pegasus
client = yes
accept = 10465
connect = smtp.strato.de:465

[strato-imap-SSL]
; SSL connection to Strato's IMAP server for Pegasus
client = yes
accept = 10993
connect = imap.strato.de:993

 Then click on "stunnel Service Install" and after that on "stunnel Service Start" in the windows start menu.

 HTH

 Martin
