Rendering problem with amazon.com

Hi Martin. Thanks again for your help.  That help, suggesting that I was not really using IERenderer was key. IDW suggested how to find out if IERenderer was enabled by clicking the Pegasus Mail HTML Renderer icon in the toolbar and I found that it wasn't. When trying to click a to activate IERenderer I got a message to close Folder Manager and windows that are open, then try again. It worked. Now Amazonand MedMD are properly rendered. Again, thanks a lot.

I've been running Pegasus for many

years, updating as new versions were issued. I'm presently using v

4.63 build 325. From the beginning, PMAIL has been installed on C:\

not C:\Program files (x86). For a

long time I have had trouble with the rendering of Order Confirmation

Emails from Amazon.com. Some early lines of text are displayed that

overlay themselves. The text is displayed properly if I open the

Email in my browser.

I installed the bear HTMLRenderer when

it became available. I think I am now using IERenderer 2.0.0.3.

Should I replace it with v 2.4.9.0? If so, where should I get it and

how should I install it? Do I need to do anything with <

LibTidy.dll>? I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I went to <this page> as suggested.  All seemed well until I received a message "Cannot find WINPM-32,EXE - setup aborted!". My Pegasus is installed (and always has been) as PMAIL in C:\ not Program Files (x86).

There might be a problem with Pegasus Mail's Registry entries: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasus Mail\BaseDir should contain the proper path for finding WINPM-32.EXE, it looks like my installer cannot read it for some reason. You may try the following: In the Windows Start menu there should be a command called Execute (translated from German) which allows you to manually enter commands for launching files. Now do a Shift + Right Click on the setup file (IERenderer.exe, the installer) and select Copy as path from the context menu. Paste this path (including the surrounding double quotes) into the execution box (see German version below). The path might look like this (depending on where

IERenderer.exe

is located): "C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\IERenderer.exe". Now go to the Pegasus Mail directory containing WINPM-32.EXE and copy its path (most probably C:\PMAIL\Programs), then paste the following parameters behind the already pasted installer path (assuming I got your path right):  /VERYSILENT "C:\PMAIL\Programs" (there needs to be a blank space between the executable path and the parameters). Assuming the above installer path you would get something like this:

"C:\Users\

YourUserName\Documents\IERenderer.exe" /VERYSILENT "C:\PMAIL\Programs" (all quotes are required). If you click the OK button the installer should be able to do its job properly (it's actually the way Pegasus Mail's installer launches the IERenderer setup).

Hi Michael,

My Directory for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE|PEGASUS MAIL\BaseDir is empty (value not set). The Folder in the left column after BaseDir is Command, and it's data is C:\PMAIL\Programs\WINPM-32.EXE-roam-A. Should I change the vaalue in BaseDir from (value not set) to C:\PMAIL\Programs\WINPM-32.EXE without the -roam-A? What should I do about the present entry of C:\PMAIL\Programs\WINPM-32.EXE-roam-A as the value in Command?

That's weird, I never had someone else reporting this: These entries are usually updated each time Pegasus Mail starts.

It should work for the IERenderer setup if you're ok with editing the Registry. But the entry should read just "C:\PMAIL\Programs" (without quotes).

Nothing, just leave it the way it is.

Hi Michael,

I've tried to follow your instructions

but failed. I did a Shift + Right Click on the IERenderer.exe file

(I saw no double quotes) and tried to copy and paste it into the

execution box. It didn't copy over. I then tried to right click on

the notepad to see if anything was copied but nothing was there. The

copy command did not work. Another surprising thing: The location of

the IERenderer.exe file was:

C:\users\Ben\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\temporary_downloads\IERenderer.exe.

What should I try next? Would the following approach work? Copy my

PEGASAUS MAIL folder to a safe place (another disk), uninstall

Pegasus 4.53 using Window's Control Panel>Programs and Features

or perhaps Revo Uninstaller, Install a new fresh Pegasus 4.53 then

replace its MAIL folder with my present (saved) one.

Of course not: The purpose of using the Shift key with the right-click is to bring up a menu containg the "Copy as path" item: You need to select this one and not the plain Copy command (see German version below using iexplore.exe as sample file). And you'll only see the quotes after pasting the path somewhere. Aside from this: Since you already know the path of IERenderer.exe (i.e. C:\users\Ben\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\temporary_downloads\IERenderer.exe) you can simply enter this one into the execution box - and it should even work without quotes since the path doesn't contain blank spaces. But anyway: You suggested entering the proper WINPM-32.EXE path (i.e. C:\PMAIL\Programs) into the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE|PEGASUS MAIL\BaseDir registry key value. After doing so the installer should be able to work properly, so why don't you try this first?

Hi Michael, I followed your suggestion

of placing the correct path: C:\PMAIL\Programs as the key value for

the Pegasus BaseDir. With the clarification from your new

instructions I successfully (I think) followed your original

procedure. When I hit OK in the execution box, the usual warning box

came up asking if I really wanted to run this program from an unknown

source. I clicked OK but didn't see much happening. I went to Task

Manager and saw that IERender.exe was running. Shortly thereafter I

looked again and the listing as a running process was not there any

more. I went to C:\PMAIL\Programs\IERenderer and checked the version

of IERenderer.dll. It is 2.4.9.0.

Problem: The overwriting of several

lines of text on any Email from Amazon confirming a purchase still is

present, The problem is still cleared up if I click “Open in a browser” in

Pegasus. My browser is Opera. Is there something I can try next? By

the way, I found another type of rendering error in one Email from

WebMD.

Ben,

Just to throw my two cents in here, it is a fact of life that some HTML email do not render well regardless whether rendered with BearHTML or with IE Renderer.  As Pegasus Mail users I believe we must resolve ourselves to viewing some messages in a browser.  This is not meant in any way to discredit Michael or Martins' extraordinary efforts towards making IE Renderer and BearHTML as effective as possible.  It is only an observation that some senders appear not to create their HTML content by the same rules that Michael and Martin are working with.  For me, the benefits of Pegasus Mail far outweigh the occasional need to view a message in a browser.

I need these messages for checking out what the issue is: Please forward them as attachments (or digest) to a new message: The forwarding dialog offers these options, but don't use "edit the forwarded message" or "bounce". Please send such messages to <beta-reports [at] pmail.gen.nz> adding a subject line referring to this community thread so I don't accidentally delete them as spam (there's just too much of it so I delete them without checking contents).

I think you may still be executing Bearhtml for displaying this message. Check by opening the message and keying in: Shift + F1. If you are running Bearhtml you should see version information appear on the Pegasus Mail status line for a few moments, and the Bearhtml Helpfile will appear. Keying in Shift + F1 again will return to the message display.   If this confirms you are using Bearhtml,  key in Shift + Ctrl + R. You should see a message on the status line saying that CSS is disabled. If that is so, close and re-open the message. If that improves things you have discovered a part of CSS that Amazon is exploiting that Bearhjtml does not support.

Hi Martin, Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried Shift + F1. I didn't see any message anywhere referring to

version information. The Helpfile did appear. I dismissed it. Then I

executed shift + Ctrl + R, and after a few moments two things

happened. I didn't see any statement about CSS being disabled .

Pegasus threw up a screen for writing an Email and the box, as shown

in the attachment, was presented.

After posting this message I'm going to

post several images in a new message to Michael. They are the

Pegasus' poorly rendered Amazon image and the same image as shown in

my Opera browser. Same for an email from WebMD. I've only seen the

problem in WebMD Emails for 01/13/14 and 01/20/14.

Best regards,
