Folder heirarchy structure query

Hi

We have a mail account that when opened does not list the New Mail folder. I know I can open it via the icon, but the fact it is missing may be indicative of a deeper problem reading the folders. There are a lot of 'filing trays' with 'child' items and I do not want to lose the folder structure.

I can delete heirarch.pm but when Pegasus Mail is opened and the folder structure is read although the New Mail folder is visible all the 'filing trays' are removed and the sub folders are dumped back onto the root.

Is it possible to get the New Mail folder entry back in the folder list without destroying the remaining folder structure?

Thanks!

The hierarch file does not contain an entry for the New Mail folder so it is surprising that rebuilding hierarch brings it back.

Awhile ago, in anticipation of a hierarch problem, I started prefixing subfolders with a unique indentifier to its tray (e.g. tray="Vendors", subfolder="Ven_VendorName").  The idea being to make it easy to move them back to the appropriate tray.  Would it be feasible for you to do the same and then rebuild hierarch or are there too many for that to be practical?

Thanks, Brian.

Unfortunately, this mail account has been in use since the 90's and is used for administrative purposes. There are myriad folders and sub-folders present that have accumulated over the years. We did not discover the need to ensure naming sub-folders uniquely was necessary until a few years ago so there are many sub-folders with the same name. Re-naming them is not feasible because the staff that use this account are extremely busy.

Is this information not stored elsewhere?

And, deleting the heirarch.pm file and starting Pegasus Mail definitely brings it back. When I copied the original heriarch.pm file back into the account folder (because the folder structure had been flattened' when the files were re-read), the New Mail folder disappeared again.

The "New Mail" folder is in fact not a folder but just a directory location where individual mail messages get stored until they are either deleted or moved to an appropriate folder (via rules or manual Move).  The location of the New Mail directory can always be found by clicking menu Help/About Pegasus Mail and then clicking the Info button.

Further to my previous posting, as New Mail directory is not a folder or tray in the hierarchy, it would not appear in Hierarchy.pm.  So I don't understand what you believe is missing?

It will always appear in the folder list when you request a folder listing, along with real folders and trays. Like folders and trays it appears in the listing under the Mailbox. IMHO it could be more easily understood if it was called the Inbox, whereas the other folders get their content from the Inbox, and can be held in a two-level filing structure (Tray + Folder).

Thanks

What I believe is missing is an entry called New Mail that usually appears at the top of the folder hierarchy in the folder view.

Here's a screenshot from the affected account:

Here's a screenshot from an account where the New Mail folder is visible:

All mail is stored in the same folder on the server - so both new mail and the folders/filing trays/child items all reside in the same place.
