New to Pegasus....How to Import Contacts and Emails to Pegasus

Thanks, but unfortunately operamail does not allow moving messages between accounts. It stores all the messages in a database and shows them by account by using a filter. A clever and efficient way, sure, but with severe limitations: you cannot drag a message anywhere.

The only possibilities I am left with are 1) convert message to a format the PM understands (mbs to mbx, but the converter I tried is too slow)  2) use an intermediate client that understands .mbs and allows export to .mbx. I am not aware of such a free alternative. The Bat! can do that (at least he import, most likely also the export) but it is a commercial client I am using on two PCs, this one I use when I am travelling. Perhaps once I am back I can try opening a fictitious account in The Bat!, import operamail messages, export them as mbx and then import them in PM. I won't be able to try before September, though.

l am new to Pegasus and not that advanced with pc stuff.  Is there any simple way of importing my Contacts List and emails from Outlook 2007 to Pegasus?

I have read about using Dawn 5 but I am having trouble downloading the software onto my old pc.

Any suggestions appreciated.

If you have done some research on this forum you probably already know that it can be done but there is no answer to the question "Is there a simple way...".  "Simple" is a relative term.  For someone experienced in databases and conversion utilities it would probably be "simple" but to the average PC user it will take some effort.

You might find this thread helpful for moving your contacts.

and this one for moving your emails (it is old but the utility by Martin Ireland called PM2MSM32 is still available).

Also look at the conversion section near the bottom of this page

What sort of problem are you having with Dawn?

I have searched the forum and found a few times the same answer about how to convert the format from another mailer. Certainly useful - apart from the fact that the link to dawn is no longer active. But then, how to import the converted messages? I cannot find any "import" function... [:(]

Messages in MBX format can be imported via Folders | Add mailbox to list.

An alternative is to do it via IMAP.

Thanks for the answer. But I cannot point to the mbx file because there it no "browse" button. There is just a radio button saying "directory path" and "username" and an empty line. Should I type the directory where the mbx is located? And where should I put it? After conversion, can I get rid of the mbx file or will PM use this one? In the latter case, I would like to be sure I put it in the "best" directory, but I have no idea where PM places the messages.

Sorry, I have not well understood the basics of how PM works...

OK. The best approach would be for you to set out what you are trying to do and what you have achieved thus far.

Presumably you are moving from another email client, if so which one?

Thanks, I'll try to be clear yet synthetic.

I have been using operamail for a while. Nice program but with some drawbacks. I have three email addresses and quite a number of messages. I would like to import the message database in PM. I am at the step of converting mbs to mbx. But then what to do? Where should I put the mbx file obtained by conversion (one for each email address) so that I can "feed" it to PM? This .mbx file is just an intermediate or will PM keep on using it as such? If it is an intermediate file, it does not matter when I put it. If PM uses it directly, I need to put it in the "right" directory - which I have first of all to locate.

Thanks for your help.

Place the directory path to the mbx folders in Add mailbox to list and execute.

You should see the new folder/messages in pmail.

Move the messages to local folders as required.

Disconnect the added mailbox.

Thanks, that's very clear. As soon as the conversion is over (it's going to take a few hours, it seems...) I'll execute and come back if anything goes wrong.

Thanks again for your help.

Well, a few hours since I started the conversion from .mbs to .mbx with Birdie, still less than 8%. Hopeless.... [:(]

As I said before IMAP might provide a solution, although that is time consuming also.

You need an IMAP account from somewhere such as Gmail, Zoho or GMX.

Open the IMAP account in your existing client and upload your messages to IMAP folders.

Then open the same account in Pmail and transfer your messages to local folders.
