Hello, I've been a Pegasus user for MANY years, and thus have hundreds and hundreds of messages archived in about 75 folders and subfolders.
Up to this point, my protocol has always been Pop3. I am changing over to a Gmail address, but still want to use Pegasus. I also want to use the IMAP protocol, since I have a phone, tablet, etc and need to access email from anyplace. I have set up an IMAP profile (Peg ver 4.70), and during the setup of that profile, I checked the box that tells Pegasus to go right to that profile. I also told it to use my default inbox for incoming messages, and the deleted folder for trash.
A couple of things I notice while running tests.... #1 - mail sent to the gmail address via the IMAP protocol does not show up in my default inbox in Pegasus, although it DOES show up on my tablet. When in Pegasus, I click the little filetray icon (2nd from left) the message DOES shows up there. #2 - I also notice that when I start Pegasus or start a manual download for messages, or when Pegasus checks for new mail every so often, the little status line in the bottom left corner says it is connecting to pop.gmail.com.
#1 How do I get Pegasus to NOT check Pop, and check IMAP instead?
#2 Assuming I get this to work, and I get an email thru the IMAP protocol that I want to archive, will I be able to simply move it to whatever folder within Pegasus I want? For example, I have a folder BOAT STUFF where I keep boat related correspondence I want to save. Will I be able to simply add to it without skipping a beat?

When using IMAP messages remain on the server by default. You won't see anything until you connect to the server. (e.g. by clicking on the mail tray)
Disable your POP3 setting in Tools |Internet options to stop that connection and set IMAP to check at whatever interval you wish.
You can move messages from the IMAP server to your own installation manually as required.

So......... Right now I have my default inbox. (About 40 messages hanging out there) This is my default screen whenever I open Pegasus.
Then I have what appears to be a separate inbox (filetray icon) that gets the gmail messages. There are about a dozen messages there. Is there a way to make THAT screen the one that opens by default when I start the program?

Maybe the easiest solution wold be to continue using POP3 but prevent it from deleting downloaded messages by disabling the respective option on its general settings page:

Not that I am aware of. Once you disable POP3 and empty the new mail folder it won't be used, as everything should turn up in the Gmail inbox (or suscribed folders if you have filtering.)
Ok, last one then.
i disabled pop3. Ran the install wizard, and EVERYTHING now is set up for the gmail address. All my tests (sending and receiving) work just fine, EXCEPT that when I receive my test emails, they show as sent from my old address, XXXX@clear.net. How can that be when I've configured everything for XXX@gmail.com?
In Tools | internet options delete the old SMTP definition and create a new definition using your Gmail credentials, including security info, i.e. direct ssl, fingerprint tracking and login using username and password.
OOPS! Another question....
I seem to be all good, but... With all the tests I've been sending myself, along with the 10 or so recording confirmations from Directv, I had about 20 or so emails ready to delete.
So, I hi-lited the first one, went down about 20 emails, hit the shift key, hi-liting all 20 mesages, the clicked on the DEL icon. I got the old "Are you sure?" message. When I clicked on "Yes",
I got the following Error window popup:
Profile: XXX@gmail.com
"The IMAP server that manages this mailbox or folder has reported an error during the operation you have attempted to perform. This operation cannot be completed."
Even with that message, it DOES delete the top email, but only the top one. When I repeat the process, I get the same error message, but it deletes the top message.
I've discovered I can delete them one at a time with no problems, but not as a group. SO, I went into Tools/IMAP profile/edit, and under settings I had the options under "When deleting messages.."
It WAS on #2 "Move them to the local deleted messages folder.." I changed it to #1 "Move them to an IMAP folder called TRASH", but got the same result.
I can't believe there is no way to delete groups of emails at a time, so I have to be missing something. Any idea what that would be?

Longstanding problem with Gmail and Pmail. It was suggested by Thomas Stephenson at one point that disabling "auto expunge" might help.
You will find that in the Imap settings in the Gmail web interface. It might or might not fix the problem.
