Caisson thanks for your quick reply and apologies for my tardy one... just been under the gun as of late. I tried setting up access to my gmail account which is really under another domain but is a direct gmail account (hal@danceparade.org). I finally got it to download messages (in the process of downloading a ton of old mail as I speak...) But I can't get it to send mail for me. And of course the whole reason I want to use pmail is to send out mail using the fantastic mailmerge capabilities. I keep getting the following measage:
01:36:16.996: --- 13 Oct 2014, 1:36:16.996 ---
01:36:16.996: Connect to 'smtp.gmail.com', timeout 60 seconds.
01:36:17.035: 15: Peer connect failure
the hostname is smtp.gmail.com and the message is "A network error occurred during connection to the host"
As per the info I got from searching gmail smtp connection I have set the host to smtp.gmail.com on port 465 with a 60 second timeout and security set to via STARTTLS
I have also set the SMTP Authentication to do a prior POP3 login with the pop3 entry that i know is working. I just downloaded over 10,000 messages from gmail.
Thanks so much for your help.
On a personal note i had used pmail nearly from its inception around 1993 until I started using pmail about 6 or 7 years ago because it was easier to get all my message on my many devices (ipads, iphones, laptop, desktop, etc.). I still miss some of the great things in pmail but the need to get mail on many devices keeps me on gmail.
I have often said over the years that David Harris was one of the heroes of the internet and suggested he get various honors the he so well deserves. But David is humble as well as being a fantastic pioneer in this realm.
