First time installation using Pegasus 4.7 on windows 8.1 and I get "ERR authentication failed" (wrong user or password)
Currently I use Thunderbird and have no problem connecting to my email with the user / password I have
Perhaps I'm doing something else wrong?
Thanks
Difficult to answer without any info.
What server settings are stipulated by the provider?
It might be as simple as using the full email address as username or just the bit before the @.
It might also relate to Security settings, i.e encryption settings.
Sorry about that,
perhaps the full error massage below may provide additional info

In addition I try using
a combination as a user name like my real name, part of my email
address or my email address as username with no success. Security
settings are ok I think as per above message
Try this...
In the Security tab of the POP3 and SMTP host configurations (Tools > Internet options...) you will find an option called "Only use SSLv3 (needed for Mercury v4.74and earlier servers)". If disabled, enable it then test. If enabled, disable it then test.
I only have Never, STLS and SSL tabs on my security page and my email needs SSL and that is what I use

I could do this but I just wonder why my password is not recognized
I use Thunderbird and Foxmail with the same password
I thought PM had a setting which I might have skipped

Look for the SSL3 option down lower in the security tab. It should be there if you are using v4.70 (was not in previous versions). It is about in the vertical center of the Security tab in the POP3 host configuration.

Try checking the "Do not use CRAM-MD5" option on the Security page.
Sorry, I just realized we are talking about POP, however, can you send mail with your current settings?
BTW on looking at the Bell Ca site the username in the guides appears to be the first part of your email address, i.e. the bit before the @.
Also it would be worth logging on to the website just to verify that the password is good.
I'm afraid that I have
to give up on PM
I did what is discussed
above and I still get the same Error message as per my earlier post.
I logged into my Bell email account but I don't want to change my
password now in case I loose my Thunderbird email settings
I also uninstalled / re
install PM but the problem is the same
I used PM in the early
90's for some years and I was very happy with it. Perhaps the problem
now is related to windows 8.1 I'm currently using?
Sorry to hear that.
I've looked further at available information re sympatico and in the majority of cases the username is quoted as the full email address although the Bell guides seemed to suggest otherwise.
It seems also that SSL is used for POP3 and TLS for SMTP so that part is correct.
The only other suggestion is to increase the timeout to 300 minimum.
Finally success, I
guess it was the 300 timeout. A big thank you for the help [:D]
I dont know if I should
start a new thread but I have two more questions
In the folders section
the top folder is called “My mailbox” and I cant find a way to
rename it. Is this a system folder which cant be renamed?
I do have a “Sent”
folder but not all my sent mails go there and I do not have yet any
filters. So wheremy sent mails go?
Close Pmail and find the file Hierarch.PM in your mailbox.
Open with Notepad and on the top line edit the second "My Mailbox" entry to whatever you want.
Save and exit.
Do you have a default folder set? (Tools | Options | Basic)
