Permanently disabling of mail preview in preview mode
Thanks Caisson, now I got it. In case anybody is searching for in Fully German Version:  Extras > Einstellungen > Eingehende Nachrichten > Vorschau-Einstellungen > "Detailanzeige im Vorschaufenster aktivieren"

But unfortunately it doesn't take any effect to the preview pane. It is still being displayed.
Hi Joerg,

It's good to be corresponding with you again.  As for the preview pane, the setting to remove the ribbon only removes the ribbon as I'm sure you noticed.  You can now effectively hide the preview pane by grabbing the divider bar between the message list and the preview pane and dragging it down.

Based on your other posts I now understand that you are concerned about the auto-preview of potentially dangerous messages and that you understand users are pretty safe with remote graphics disabled.  Knowing that, there probably isn't an advantage to hiding the preview pane.

Hi,

The subject sounds senseless to disable the preview within preview mode, but let me explain ...

Using Pmail 4.63 with Windows 7 64bit in conection with Mercury.  Works good so far.

Some of my users prefer the Preview Mode of the Folder Manager instead of the Windows Mode. The preview mode, where they have a folder tree at the left side and a list of mails at the right side is similar to their home clients like Outlook or Thunderbird and that's why they prefer this view. But in other programs it is possible to permanently deactivate the immediate preview when a mail is selected.

In Pmail we always  deactivate the option "Preview" in menu "Folder". But after a restart the preview of mails is activated again. How could we permanently deactivate the preview?

Greetings

Joerg

I concur with caisson.

I am curious what the ultimate goal is and whether hiding the preview pane would accomplish what you need.  You can hide the preview pane by dragging the horizontal divider bar down.  You can also disable the "Display a 'details' ribbon in association with the preview area" option to get rid of the preview pane ribbon.  The folder window needs to be closed then reopened for this setting to take affect.  You would want to disable the "Mark previewed messages as having been read" option as well.

Hi Brian,

Nice to hear from you.
You can also disable the "Display a 'details' ribbon in association with the preview area" option to get rid of the preview pane ribbon.
I have searched for this option, but without success [:S] Didn't find the corresponding wording in our Full German Version of Pmail. Or is it a new ribbon in v4.7? We are still at 4.63 at the moment.

Greetings

Joerg

Thanks Caisson, now I got it. In case anybody is searching for in Fully German Version:  Extras > Einstellungen > Eingehende Nachrichten > Vorschau-Einstellungen > "Detailanzeige im Vorschaufenster aktivieren"

But unfortunately it doesn't take any effect to the preview pane. It is still being displayed.

But because I have disabled the automatic load of external image links for all of my users, I'm not so afraid about this security risk.

I don't think that there is any difference between List and Preview mode in relation to remotely linked graphics, other than you can see it happening in Preview mode.

If you have set the program to automatically retrieve remote graphics it is happening regardless of the view.

As you have established, this feature should be turned off and care taken in determining the exceptions to be allowed.

You are right. But in list mode I can immediately delete a suspicious mail without opening while in preview mode this mail is getting automatically opened when selected for deleting. That's the difference for us.

Do a right-click: It selects the message without opeing it.

Hi Michael,
Do a right-click: It selects the message without opeing it.
I know, I know. But I searched for a simple and convenient method for all of my users. I cannot tell them: If you want to delete then right-click, but if you want to open then left-click. This doensn't works. A permanent deactivation of the preview in preview mode would be helpful.

But as I told. It's not such a big problem. On the other hand, this should be simply realizable by David in the next version, because the functionality is available and works and only the setting has to be saved permanently in config.

Cheers

Joerg
