Local intranet links not parsed properly

Thanks to both of you for your help with this.

I am using V4.70 Build 546

Perhaps this is something that might be remedied in the next release? I, and others, use the 'Insert hyperlink' feature to simplify the appearance of long/complex URL's so if it is a size limit imposed by Pegasus Mail hopefully it can be adjusted or removed :)

Cheers!

Hi

We are using the latest version of Pegasus Mail. I have just discovered that when sending local mail via a mailing list using Mercury/32 intranet links are not followed.

What happens is that if I insert a hyperlink in a message that points to a page on our intranet, the home page will always be displayed instead of the page specified in the link. When I copied the link before inserting it in the message I opened a new tab in my browser (I.E.11), and pasted the link to test it. The correct page opened.

The link used points to a server on our local network (Atlas). The link is: http://atlas:26514/sites/ourintranet/SitePages/Home.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7BBF3F3C43%2D994D%2D401F%2DA20A%2D99CF49EF5F70%7D

Is there a setting in Pegasus Mail that I need to change?

Thanks.

Plain text or HTML? Is it a line break issue? Do you use the link button in Pegasus Mail's editor (which would inevitably create an HTML message)? How does the URL look after IE opened the page?

Hi

Thanks for the response.

I used the 'insert hyperlink' button to create the link (so that the text 'this link' appears as a hyperlink). The page address is as shown in my first message. When I open the received message, right-click the link and choose Copy link target to clipboard, the following is copied:

http://atlas:26514/sites/ourintranet/_layouts/15/start.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7B2AFF8D70%2D690F%2D42B3%2DBF1A%2DED0DFDE68#/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx

which is quite different to the link that was pasted in the original message. After comparing them I can see that everything after .aspx has been truncated:

?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7B2AFF8D70%2D690F%2D42B3%2DBF1A%2DED0DFDE6839B%7D

Sorry, but this is confusing: Which link did you paste into the email (it can't be the one from your first post since it already starts with a different location: http://atlas:26514/sites/ourintranet/SitePages/Home.aspx...)? Which one can be seen in the raw received message? Which one can be copied from the received message? And which one is transferred to the browser? Please put them into your reply all together so I can be sure you're referring to the same address and I can test it myself.

I'm almost sure the address is already truncated by Pegasus Mail when inserting it into the new message, it's not a rendering issue: At least that's what I see when using the URL from your last post, it's truncated at "...Documents/For". And IIRC I even already reported this to David Harris a longer time ago, looks like I need to redo it ...

I have used a different page as an example in my reply - I am very sorry for the confusion.

This is what is actually happening.

I wish to send the following link to our staff which directs them to a page on our intranet. The link points to a SharePoint Foundation 2013 page located in the 'IT Support' page off the Documents section (Home page > Documents (the Documents link on the left side of the screen) > IT Support):
http://atlas:26514/sites/ourintranet/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7B2AFF8D70%2D690F%2D42B3%2DBF1A%2DED0DFDE6839B%7D

I create a message and use the insert hyperlink command to create a 'text' link

When I receive the message, the link now points to Home page > Documents:
http://atlas:26514/sites/ourintranet/_layouts/15/start.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7B2AFF8D70%2D690F%2D42B3%2DBF1A%2DED0DFDE68#/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx

---

From the intranet's homepage, if I click Documents (from the main body of the home page) > IT Support the path is:
http://atlas:26514/sites/ourintranet/_layouts/15/start.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7B2AFF8D70%2D690F%2D42B3%2DBF1A%2DED0DFDE68#/SitePages/Home.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7BBF3F3C43%2D994D%2D401F%2DA20A%2D99CF49EF5F70%7D

When I send this link via email using the 'insert hyperlink' feature, the link is received as:
http://atlas:26514/sites/ourintranet/_layouts/15/start.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fourintranet%2FShared%20Documents%2FIT%20Support&FolderCTID=0x0120002FB9E7FB27D25346BBAF6D21C2DC0A26&View=%7B2AFF8D70%2D690F%2D42B3%2DBF1A%2DED0DFDE68#/SitePages/Home.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsite

which generates a 'Sorry, something went wrong' page.

I hope this is more helpful

Both hyperlinks in you last post truncate at 271 characters which made me suspicious that we were dealing with a finite length limit for hyperlinks.  The problem with that thinking is that the hyperlink sample in your original post truncated at 234 characters.  Might the hyperlink sample in the original post be incomplete?

I did some searching on this forum and in the discussion list archives to see if I could find any reference to a length limit for hyperlinks and found only one vague reference by the late, great Thomas Stephenson about finite lengths in email but that discussion was of a general nature so is not helpful.

Well, the first sample looks really weird to me since it appears to mix up the URL - and I cannot duplicate this with my version (4.70 build 546) of Pegasus Mail (BTW: Which one do you use?). The second one is simply a truncation (which is what I see with your first sample as well). If I take a look at the raw message data I find both URLs truncated like this. IOW: Pegasus Mail truncates URLs after exactly 263 bytes on my machine and 271 bytes on your machine when composing the message.
