You should see "build 546"
I am not clear as to the meaning of POP3 vs IMAP.
POP3 downloads messages from a server with the option of leaving messages on the server or deleting them on download.  IMAP accesses the messages on the server with cached copies stored locally of you configure as such.
My messages (when read on the iPad) stay on the server. When I read them into PMail, they are downloaded to my desktop computer (Win XP).
The iPad will be using IMAP whereas Pegasus Mail on the WinXP desktop is probably downloading via POP3.  I think you would know if you were using IMAP because you would be opening an IMAP profile.
On the desktop, whenever PMail tries to read in new mail, it causes the system to hang for a while - sometimes for several minutes. I can play Spider Solitaire during this time, but not much else. And then SOME of the messages arrive twice - two identical messages, although the size of them is usually slightly different.

Puzzling and frustrating while I sit back and wait for it to finish reading in the messages.

I have recently changed to a Wifi Modem, in hopes of improving this situation. No change.
Some folks experience a frustratingly long delay  while other don't and so far there is no fix for the folks with the delays.  We know that on fast, high RAM, high internet speed machines the mail download

process is significantly faster than on slower machine especially if

there is a slow internet connection.  We don't what it is about v4.7 that introduced the issue nor is there a fix.  All you can do is be patient.  Either run Pegasus Mail more often to keep the number of messages being downloaded as low as possible or fire up Pegasus Mail and then go do something else while it retrieves messages.

As for the duplicate messages, compare the headers to see if you can identify what makes one larger than the other.  That might provide a clue into what is going on.

Hello. I am using Pegasus 4.7 on Windows XP.

One person's emails always come in duplicated. They do not come in duplicated on my iPad (not through PMail), but they do on my desktop (through PMail).

If I try to open both messages in PMail, Pegasus just shows the one message.

Any thoughts?

 Thank you.

Much more information is needed on this question.  My experience with iPads is access to a mail server via IMAP whereas Pegasus Mail could be either POP3 or IMAP.  To begin with I think we will need to know how you are accessing mail (POP3 or IMAP), whether mail is being left on the server, whether the duplicates show up simultaneously, and exactly what you mean by "If I try to open both messages in PMail, Pegasus just shows the one message".

If you only need to access messages from the backup then the best approach is to do a clean install of the most recent Pegasus Mail onto the Win8 machine. Be sure to install into the default location of C:\PMAIL (it will not work if installed anywhere in the \Program Files folders on Win8). You could then access the messages from the backup by adding that mailbox directory as an added folder to the Pegasus Mail folder list. To do this, make the folder list active the go to the 'Folder' pull-down menu and select 'Add mailbox to list'. In there you select 'Directory path' and enter the path to the mailbox directory of the backup.

We seem to be seeing more of these spurious posts. What is being done about it?

In which folder are these messages stored? If it's an "ordinary" folder (not the new mail folder, e.g.) it might be a folder consistency issue which can be checked by clicking the proper context menu entry after right clicking this folder.

This thread is relatively old. My point is that the post by "glennmcgrath" is not related to the subject. Not the first time we have seen this behaviour recently.

Since it's related to PM and doesn't contain Spam-Urls I don't see an issue here, otherwise we could simply click "Report abuse" ...

Yes. Its just a nuisance. What appears to be happening is that new users are created but the posts are not theirs. They are drawn from unrelated threads and are originally by other users.

Hi,

This is happening again.

Using Pegasus Ver 4.7. It says Feb 2014. Is this the same as the March 2014 version???

I am not clear as to the meaning of POP3 vs IMAP. My messages (when read on the iPad) stay on the server. When I read them into PMail, they are downloaded to my desktop computer (Win XP).

No change.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

V4.70 is the current version.

A couple of things you can try are to turn off spam and content control if they are enabled and temporarily disable any firewall or av programs that are running.

Actually, I can't see why those suggestions would be related to the problem. I have been using pmail for over 20 years and this slowdown and dupes is very recent. I need to figure out what has changed recently.

 Thank you, though.

v4.70 introduced what appear to be hangs during downloads.  My earlier post about this is apparently delayed pending moderator approval.

As for Firewall and AV programs, they update regularly and are one of the first things to consider when something no longer works like it did.  Temporarily disabling them is usually an easy way to identify or rule them out as contributing to the problem.

Other actions going on during downloads are server side filtering, spam/content control processing, and new mail filtering if the new mail folder is open during downloads.  All should be giving consideration if the goal is to mitigate the delay.

I stand corrected. I will investigate that.

Thank you both.
