Messages selectively downloaded but not appearing in inbox: Problem solved
This is such a nasty problem to get and waste time over, I wonder if the developers could add a warning when HTML files are downloaded and there is no valid browser support link? Or is this an issue connected to the in built renderer?
There's no (intended) connection whatsoever, neither to the renderer nor to the command line. And AFAIK you're so far the only person encountering such an issue. Aside from this: If FF is your system's default browser Pegasus Mail will be able to find it automatically no matter which HTML renderer is used. And you're strongly rcommended to use the recent versions of Pegasus Mail (4.41 certainly isn't) if encountering weird issues ...

V4.41. Been using Pmail on XP  for years and this is the first time I've seen this recent behaviour.

I selective download from my mail server host and usually go straight to my inbox where I can view new incoming mail. Now I see a small window with the update count of unread messages but nothing in the inbox unless I restart pmail.  I'm certain I haven't changed any settings so any ideas would be helpful. I tried a re-install to the same folder containing my mail folders, but the problem is still there.

Do you have more than 700 messages in the new mail folder?  If so, that could explain the problem because at some point above that number Pegasus Mail becomes unable to display new message entries in the new mail folder window.

It can still display them, but doesn't do so by an automatic refresh.  It will refresh if you click the re-scan icon or press Ctrl+w.

From the help:

"If your new mail folder contains more than 750 messages, Pegasus Mail will stop doing automatic updates of the folder for performance reasons, and will check for new mail in your new mail folder less frequently."

Now this issue had really got me freaked out because I've been using PMAIL for years and thanks to Support, it has survived through all the Windows upgrades and releases (Downgrades!!). I like the fact it has not changed to a bloatware application - just a nice simple layout that stays consistently powerful and delivers!

I had already archived a lot of mail from my several years of mailboxes and had been using PMAIL for a couple of months without this issue. I investigated further and found  test messages were fine, being selectively downloaded and appearing in the inbox without the little new mail box on the screen and zilch in the 'new mail' inbox.  Then I noticed that only web based messages containing HTML were the ones that did not appear in the inbox. They were 'invisible' until I closed and restarted PMAIL.

I have just gone through some major OS changes from XP to Win7_64 and despite repeated re-installs and fresh installs, I got the same problem. There is no solution here or on the web, despite some others having the same problem.

Then I had a good look in Tools/Options/Incoming Mail/Hyperlinks and realized my Firefox web browser command line was not pointing to the new location for Firefox.exe. I corrected that and now all my Selective Mail downloads come into my New Mail folder. Of course, reinstall of PMAIL had picked up all my old settings including the wrong browser command line location, which didn't help the diagnosis.

This is such a nasty problem to get and waste time over, I wonder if the developers could add a warning when HTML files are downloaded and there is no valid browser support link? Or is this an issue connected to the in built renderer? I never let PMAIL Find Browser automatically because I've got MS and FF installed whilst FF (default)  is always installed on a backup drive letter.

 Thanks for your replies.

PS: In my new rebuild I decided to remove PGP and QDPGP. If you have ever installed PGP V8,  you will have BIG problems cleaning up registry entries after an uninstall, it is a real OS polluter application I shall never re-install.
