Read emails just disappear from inbox after restart of PM

Oh no! Yes, you are right! [8-)]

In the properties I could have found: write-protected...

So that is the reason! Simple but efficient! [;)]

Many thanks to you all!

Kind regards

Hello community,

since several pc-sessions I remarked a severe problem with certain e-mails that disappear suddenly.

According to my observations that seem to happen only in the file folder 'new mails' (inbox) and after reading.

Interestingly I cannot find the disappered mails anywhere in the folders.

There is option called "Allow read messages to stay in the new mail folder" that does exactly what it says.  Perhaps it was once enabled but is now disabled.  When it is disabled, read messages are automatically moved to the default mail folder ("Main folder" by default).  Both of these settings are located in Tools > Options > General settings > Basic settings.

Do you have 13969 mails in "New mail"?
I think that this can be a problem.

The option

"Allow read messages to stay in the new mail folder"

is enabled in my settings...[A]

So you really think the problem is that I have more than 750 messages in my New Mail Folder?

But in my opinion "New mail" is just a name for a file folder...

What will happen if there's a file folder named otherwise with a content > 750 messages?

Is there also the risk to loose some of them??

kind regards.

This can absolutely be a problem.  The new mail folder is not like any other folder.  New messages reside in the mailbox directory as individual files with .CNM extensions.  All other mail folders are made up of a single .PMM file and an associated .PMI index file.  By design, your new mail folder should be just for new messages and your default mail folder (usually the Main Folder) should be the catchall folder where mail goes once read if not redirected.

There should not be a risk of losing them but accessing them may be a problem simply because we know that the message list in the New Mail folder starts failing to self-update at somewhere above 700 messages so who knows what additional problems are encountered at +13,000.

Many thanks for your hints and recommendations.

So you convinced me to move these mails from the Inbox folder to another new folder...

And this morning I moved the e-mails. It was unbelievable! The moving process has been always stable and clean operated!

The once disappeared mails  reappeared! [:^)]

But now some old e-mails in the inbox cannot be moved or deleted!?

Any ideas to this pmail behaviour??

Kind regards

Check whether they are marked as "read-only".
