iDevices, IMAP, & mailbox locks
Try connecting via IMAP - mixing the access types to the mailbox is going to lead to blocking issues.
I confirm this. As already stated above, I'm not able to connect over IMAP when simultaneously Pegasus is still connected to a user mailbox.

Also two simultaneous IMAP sessions to one Peg mailbox don't work. The second IMAP attempt gets an error message back, at least with our IMAP client RoundCube.

I have a user with a corrupted HIERARCH and while working on the problem noticed the mailbox locked by an IMAP connection.  This user spends time both in the office accessing the mailbox with Pegasus Mail and on the road using iDevices to connect via IMAP.  Simultaneous access of the mailbox would explain the corruption but this user has been doing this for over a year so don't understand why it happened now.  Anyway, I don't do iDevice or IMAP so would someone please explain to me how to advise users on preventing iDevices from accessing via IMAP while they are in the office accessing via Pegasus Mail?

Also, what happens when an IMAP connection is attempted while the mailbox is locked by Pegasus Mail access?

Hi Brian,

Recently we searched for a solution accessing the Peg mailboxes when connected via VPN from the road to our office. Of course, when connected to the company LAN via VPN the user obtains an IP from the LAN and is able to start a normal Peg instance from the company server. But this takes soo long ... I tried this from home and I have to wait about 5 minutes until all folders have been loaded (with a download speed at home of 6 Mbit/s and an upload speed at office of 10 Mbit/s).

Now we have installed RoundCube (https://roundcube.net/) on a Linux machine within the LAN. RoundCube is an IMAP client which offers a simple webmailer interface and which is able to connect different users to an IMAP server.

When logged-in to our VPN, the user starts the RoundCube webservice at the Linux Server and have to login with its Peg User Name and PW ( at Mercury-I ) for accessing his mailbox and the subscribed Peg folders.  It works great so far.

Now I have tried to connect to my Peg mail account via RoundCube over IMAP while I'm simultaneously still connected to the mailbox by Pegasus Mail from my office computer. But it doesn't work. RoundCube returns an error message: "Die Anmeldung ist fehlgeschlagen" ("The login has failed").

When Pegasus Mail is closed RoundCube is able to connect without any problems.

Cheers

Joerg

IMAP does allow for simultaneous access from more than one device, so that shouldn't be the direct cause of the problem.

If the PMail access is also via IMAP there isn't usually an issue.  What type of PM access was it?

This is part of what I am trying to figure out.  My post is my attempt to try to understand what is supposed to happen so I have context in determining what is actually happening

I received the mailbox lock warning when trying to run Peg as that user.  Further digging revealed the MAILBOXM.LCK file.  A look at MercuryI confirmed an active IMAP connection which would have been by an iDevice (phone or pad).

I run a multi-user install of Pegasus Mail with local workstations running that install as the appropriate user.  The installation and the mailboxes reside on a server.  IMAP access is mostly by iDevices but one user uses a Blackberry.

I think you are confirming that you weren't using Pegasus Mail in IMAP mode to access that mailbox.  That's why the LCK file gave you a warning.

Try connecting via IMAP - mixing the access types to the mailbox is going to lead to blocking issues.
