Pegasus 4.70 Feb. 27, 2014 build 546

Brian,

thanks for your reply and instructions to do a complete clean install.

Some comments:

I have just been going through my PMAIL directory and it seems to have become a catch-all for all kinds of different files, photo, scans, texts and what not. No doubt it is a mistake that I have made, through inexperience, over the years. Firstly I'm going to try and clean some of that up, perhaps it may help.

I can not find a file in the directory called PMAIL.INI and I did a search using Windows 7 program search, I know there must be one in there some where but I don't see it.

The PMAIL.CFG file has a date of 2/5/2002 so it hasn't been changed in over 10 years.

To feel more comfortable I'm going to enlist the help of a chap to help me go through a clean install to make sure that I do it properly.

That's where I am presently.

Thanks for your help.

 Larry

This is my first post so hopefully I'm doing it correctly. I am running the above version of Pegasus on my desktop, Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have been using Pegasus since about 2002. I am unable to send attachments. I could before I upgraded to this version. What happens Is as soon as you hit add attachment it either freezes or crashes. I have tried re-installs etc to no luck. I has become very annoying. Can anyone suggest something.

Forgive me if I'm in the wrong area, I just working my way around here.

Thanks!

I don't have an answer but this thread might be relevant:

You might try to see where the TEMP directory is pointing to. It should be to something simple like c:\temp. You can use Control Panel\System\Advanced\Environmental variables.  Or much simpler, just click on

Pegasus Mail menu Help\About Pegasus Mail and then click button  "Info..."

Thanks for the answer. I went through that but when I installed 4.70 I didn't make any other changes. I was using Adobe but it was the same version. In other words the only think I changed was the version of Pegasus. And it's still not working.

I suggest you create a new TEMP directory directly  under root C:\ directory, (using Windows Explorer "New Folder") ie C:\TEMP and go into Control Panel  and go to menu System/Advanced System settings/Environmental variables and change the User Settings value for the TEMP variable to that directory, ie C:\TEMP    You will need to restart your system to put this change into effect.

Thank you for the suggestion Martin. I am a little uneasy to make a change like that. I think I see what has to be done: remove the value there now in the TEMP setting and replace it with C:\TEMP. Will that change allow me to send attachments. If it doesn't work, I can always return to the previous values.

As an aside, I got out my lap top, which I haven't used for some time, with has WIN 7 Professional version, 64 bit installed with Pegasus 4.62 and everything worked just perfectly, no problem sending attachments. Is it possible to revert back to an older version.

Thanks very much for your help,

Larry T

Martin,

this is another follow-up and I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly.

I have a question regarding your response to my query of several months ago, I apologize for not responding sooner. I just want to confirm the changes that it is necessary to make. I am going to change the Users Settings value in the Systems/Advanced System settings/Environmental variables from TEMP to C:\TEMP and leave the entry under the Value heading the same on that line. Is that correct.

Thank you,

Larry

Variable should be Temp and its value should be c:\temp   When completed and you have clicked OK, start up a command window  CMD.EXE and type in SET  This will display all the current settings for both the current user and Windows system.    You should see a line towards end of the display that says  "temp=c:\temp"  (no double quotes)

Martin.

It appears that I already have a Temp folder in my root C:\directory, something to do with Cloud starter. What should I do now.

I don't think this will change anything on your machine since I'm using the default one like you on Win7 64 since years without any problems. Please read this post and provide us with a crash dump for further diagnostics.

Michael,

I've run the dump file program however I don't know what I'm looking for in the way of a crash dump. After running the program, I attempted a test message to send an attachment and it froze again. In other words I am unable to send attachments. When I go to desktop to retrieve the attachment file, desk top appears to be blank. I know there must be something that I am missing but if you will explain where to get this dump file, somehow I will try to provide it.

Thanks,

 Larry

Crash dumps are only created if a crash actually occurs, it's all self-explaing in such a case. If you only get a hang or freeze you need to trigger a dump manually via the PMDebug Snapshot entry from the Start menu group created by the Minidump installer (if you allowed it to do so).

Ok, now I don't really understand what your issue is: What "desktop" do you mean respectively are you exactly refering to? In some cases it might be helpful if you attach a screenshot to your post.

What should happen first when trying to attach a file is for you to see a file selection dialog (see below). From your description above it sounds like you don't get this dialog which very likely means that it pops up somewhere outside of the visible screen. If this is the case your issue is with selecting a file to attach and not with sending an attachment?

I don't know anything about Cloud Starter or other similar products, but I  would suggest that you are probably trying to access a location outside your machine (in a cloud maybe).

As with Michael's response, it seems likely that the Open File listing dialog should be pointing to a file that is on your machine or attached via a network link. Question: how do you access a file that is stored in the cloud for other apps?

Thanks Michael,

I am unable to send attachments consistently since I have updated to 4.70. Before that I had no problems. I might be able to send one attachment and then it freezes and it won't work again. I will see my desktop where the files are situated however before I can select one, Pegasus freezes. Today, my desktop came up however there were no files showing. I think it might be a dual problem in selecting and file and sending it, provided you can select one. I will try again and will do a snap shop with a view to you seeing what I am looking at.

Thank you Michael!

I have no idea what Cloud Starter is all about, I don't use it in the normal course of running my computer.

I just did a test and I was able to send an attachment, no problem! Then I tried it again, and it froze and I had to re-boot Pegasus.

I then tried to send another e-mail with an attachment and it froze however I was able to get a screen shot which I will try to print here as follows:

I can't do it. I have the screen shot sitting on my desk top but I can't copy and paste it here. What am I doing wrong.!!

I really don't understand what you're talking about, maybe the screenshot will help: I don't now what desktop where the files are situated actually is. I think we're having a terminology issue here ...

You need to do so exactly while Pegasus Mail hangs. BTW: Is Tools => Options => Advanced settings => Load Windows Internet Services set to Always? It should (and restart Pegasus Mail after changing).

At the top of the forum editor (when composing a post) you will see some TABs with additional options, one of them actually being named Options: This is the place for attaching files to forum posts (see below). Please note that attachments must not be larger than 64 KB, so you will very likely need to use a converter (like IrfanView) for limiting its size. IrfanView provides such an option when saving images as JPEG files.
