Message on shutdown to recover pmm.pmi file pair?

The upside is that it probably won't get any worse.

At the office this afternoon during Pmail shutdown a message popped up about needing to undelete a pmm/pmi file pair.  I immediately went to the server and fired up an undelete utility but the file pair was not listed as a deleted file.  I use Recuva which shows deleted files with info about chances of recovery so expected the file pair to have been listed.  I then went to last nights backup of the mailbox directory but the file pair did not exist when the backup was made.  I don't know how to proceed from here.  What exactly occurs that triggers this message?

Pegasus Mail creates a new file for folder data when compacting folders for freeing disk space. After doing so it tries to copy the data back to the previous folder file. If it can't do so there might be another file with some temporary name containing the compacted folder data, but I have no idea whether it's created, in the mailbox or the TEMP directory, e.g..

I access the offsite backup from 2 days ago and found the file pair.  It is a folder I use to filter  to before forwarding or moving the messages.  It is usually empty so I dodged a bullet on this one.

Thanks Michael.

Reoccurred!  Knew something was up.  Checked with my IT guy and found out he had decided to sync user data between servers.  Have lost two valuable folders that I know of.  Only one folder name pair was displayed by the message and that one is unrecoverable using undelete utility.  Must now analyze directory listing of current mailbox vs. backup to find missing ones.  That's over 500 folders.  I haven't been this angry in a long time.

Here's to hoping your day is better than mine.  Cheers!
