So I would like to know what the advantages are of using a desktop email program. In respect of taking up space on your hard drive, is this the purpose of Mercury? I haven't studied this but from my limited knowledge I understand it acts as a server? Sorry to be ignorant!

Lastly, from what I've read in this forum Pegasus does not seem to run smoothly on win 10 so am a little apprehensive about using it because I want to use it mainly for business purposes.

Any replies will be much appreciated.

The question is really about how you like to work and what you wish to accomplish with your email solution.  Knowing this would help us provide specific advise on how Pegasus Mail would or would not fit.

If you haven't read the wikipedia entry for Pegasus Mail it is worth a look although I just gave it a quick scan and noticed a number of inaccuracies.  I think the most valuable part of the page is the "Advanced features" section.  It may expand your thinking about what you want your email solution to do, especially if you will be using it for business.

As for Win10, I don't have first hand experience but have seen numerous folks acknowledge not having any problems.  I am also aware of a beta tester running it on Win10.

I know this is not the right place but do you know anything about Mercury? I mean being s server does this mean you don't need to use space on your hard drive for Pegasus?

Mercury must store the mail somewhere so yes, it is going to take up hard drive space. 

To give you a little idea about Mercury consider my scenario:

I am the business manager/IT guy for a small business (13 employees).  I run Mercury to retrieve mail off of domain hosted mailboxes then distribute it into local user mailboxes that reside on a server.  Employees run a shared install of Pegasus Mail (also on the server) to access their local mailboxes.  Mercury also provides remote access to mailboxes via IMAP.  Additionally, Mercury can handle spam detection and can scan messages through integration with ClamAV.

I happen to retrieve mail off of hosted mailboxes but that is not a prerequisite.  Mercury is a full mail server so not dependent on retrieving mail from another server.  That just happens to be one of it's capabilities.
