Should I block email marketing tools

Hi Rolf,

Is it just a coincidence?  See my next post on the number of Password failures.  :)

I can understand and fully accept that companies need to verify email accounts, get rid of the closed and miss typed  accounts.  But like I had stated, this is a private account, not used for companies and such.  I have Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc. to use for them.  Let there servers have the marketing tools requests.

For now, I guess I will just leave it unblocked, but will watch it.

 Thanks for your thoughts.

xxx being my domain.

From what I have been able to gather this is some sort of email marketing tool to verify that this is a proper email address.

So my question is, before I go and start blocking;  Should I block it?  I really don't have any need to have more email spam being sent to me.  Or is this some way of my domain/account being used to send spam.  smtpout is used for relying from what I have been able to gather.  I am not sending out any email marketing.

Anybody have any thoughts or opinions?  Google has not been my friend on this one.   Have been able to find lots of info on companies offering the service, but nothing else.

Thanks!

Seems fairly harmless, they won't try to send you anything or trick you to relay anything. And if you block them whoever is using their services will presumably try sending to the non-existent addresses themselves anyway.

But do I want to have marketing services verifying my address?  Would seem to me that the fact that they are verifying it means that a:) somebody has sold their client list, b:)some company has been hacked and had the list "stolen" or c:) some personal computer has been compromised.
I don't use this address for forums, registration  or login credentials.   Have many third party address for that purpose.
So therefore to my way of thinking, if they are not blocked, they verify my address and I start to get a bunch of junk email.  It would seem that there is always a big complaint about how much spam is out there, wouldn't blocking these companies be a start in reducing it?
I have really not that much knowledge with these email verifiers.  That is why I am posting here.   Hopefully there is a few more people that know about them and can offer a better insight then what I have been able to Google.

Thanks!

I would expect that a service like this is being used by companies and organizations doing mass-mailings of different kinds, but I doubt that spammers would pay for such a service. As long as it's not listed by Spamhaus I would probably not try to block it.
