Use of distribution list causes error message: 550-5.7.1 {mp049} No more than 11 recipients allowed for unverified users

[quote user="MJSmit"]

Having the same problem after any distribution list - mine is only 8 recipients. A new message, not to a distribution list but to 4 people, refuses to be sent. The error I get (with last digits of IP addresses and parts of e-mail addresses censored):

This is saying that your server has setup some restrictions on sending. ( it might be it does not accept a message with more than x number of RCPT TO: addresses) and the only way to solve this is to either get them to relax the restriction or use a different SMTP host (like GMail) that does not restrict the access. I would recommend you talk to your ISP and ask them the same question.

What do I need to do differently so I can put more than 11 addresses into a distribution list?

Thanks a million

What do I need to do differently so I can put more than 11 addresses into a distribution list? [I am using a gmx.de account and I don't know if the problem is on the side of Pegasus or gmx.]

Thanks a million

Anne

Pegasus Mail supports a nearly unlimited number of addresses in a DList - I routinely do tests here with a test list containing 5000 addresses.

By the sound of it, gmx has put a recipient limit in place, meaning that no single mail transaction can have more than a certain set number of recipients (10 in this case, I would guess). If so, your only workaround at this point is to create multiple DLists, each with no more than 10 addresses, and send out separate messages. Alternatively, you could contact gmx and see if you can get an exemption on the restriction, or you could try to find a different SMTP server you can use that does not have the restriction.

Adding an ability to Pegasus Mail to split a DList up in this way is on the to-do list (so, if the list has 100 recipients, you can tell Pegasus Mail to create 10 separate jobs automatically when sending the message), but I can't give you a time-frame for it.

Cheers!

I just noticed the subject of your message (didn't see it before writing my last post). Another thing you can try is to enable SMTP authentication in Pegasus Mail - this should make you a "verified user" in GMX's terms. Turn on SMTP authentication in the "Security" page of the SMTP definition editor in Pegasus Mail (the options are covered in the help).

Cheers!
