I can't tell without having the orignal unprocessed HTML available. From the URL I can only tell that it contains blanks encoded as %20 which is most likely to cause issues. But without the actual message I can't tell whether there's something going wrong or not. If you don't mind further investigation you may forward this message to <beta-reports [@] pmail.gen.nz> without any editing or processing, the preferred way being as an attachment to another message, preferably with a subject line pointing to this forum thread so I can tell it apart from all the spam being sent to this account. If you need further assistance with forwarding please let me know. Don't post it here and don't forward to my account because it might get bocked by my ISP.

I've always used IERenderer, though I'll confess to not understanding why it remains an adjunct to Peg rather than an integral part. I'm accustomed to it popping up a warning asking whether I want to continue downloading graphics containing tracking code. I know in some cases I can opt to load the message into a browser. I frequently get traffic that includes tracking, e.g., Washpo and NYT articles with advertising, and I usually allow the downloads without incident.

But my own organization has now opted to use AWS and a CRM called Your Membership, and its bulk mailing feature employs tracking that IERenderer simply refuses to allow. I am concerned that our members are being subjected to harvesting of their personal data in return for just for our ability to track their click-throughs. Am I being too alarmist? I'm being accused of using an archaic mail client that just isn't up to snuff.

Here is an example of a tracked link that my Peg simply won't allow. Can you tell from the added code what it's doing?

OK, firstly it's a redirection which you may allow by enabling the respective IER option in its configuration dialog accessible via its toolbar button. Secondly Firefox e.g. reports a 404 error (page doesn't exist) after trying to load the target page. Thirdly, whoever accuses you of "using an archaic mail client" should read the European General Data Protection Regulation. Here comes just a very short part which might be applicable to this situation (according to Wikipedia):

No personal data may be processed unless this processing is done under one of six lawful bases specified by the regulation (consent, contract, public task, vital interest, legitimate interest or legal

requirement). When the processing is based on consent the data subject

has the right to revoke it at any time.

Data controllers must clearly disclose any data collection,

declare the lawful basis and purpose for data processing, and state how

long data is being retained and if it is being shared with any third

parties or outside of the EEA. Data subjects have the right to request a

portable copy of the data collected by a controller in a common format, and the

right to have their data erased under certain circumstances.

Maybe they'll change their considerations after doing so?

NB: There's a Firefox add-on which removes this kind of redirections so you might feel better if using it, it's called Skip Redirect. It's available for Chrome as well.

First, I know it's a redirection, and the honest intent is simply to collect click-thrus, which I have no problem with. But I don't trust AWS to not have its own monitizing interest in collecting user data. Click-thrus can be counted in the server stats, without allowing third-party gleaning. Second, I found that Redirection was checked in my IER config, and I had somehow not connected that. But whether it's checked or not, those AWS links are returned as 404s in both Chrome and Firefox. I appreciate the Skip Redirect add-on, and have added it to both Chrome and FF, but on or off, it seems to have no effect.
