Selected line wrap length not honored on opening incoming mail

When I read incoming messages, the text goes way over the right boundary rather than wrapping at the length I have set in the message reader under incoming mail. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

Do a right click in the reader window resp. pane of the preview and select the proper option to reformat or wrap. Depending on the kind of the message source (plain text or HTML formatted) this may have only limited effect on the latter.
