pmail 4.80, win 10

pmail ( single user ) on a second drive, copied from the first drive, shows that the email is all in an admin folder, the only folder at that level in the mail folder. that admin folder is read only, and a windows admin can not unmark that read only.

no new mail can come in.

any ideas?

The read-only attribute is a file level attribute, not a folder level one. If, when looking at the folder properties, you are seeing the read-only attribute box as a black square, that means that some or all of it's files are marked read-only.

You would also see the black square if the \Mail\Admin directory has been copied to a protected area of Windows 10. Pegasus Mail can not function inside of a Windows 10 protected area. Some of us learned that the hard way when we tried to copy Pegasus Mail for a location within \Program Files on Win 7 to the same place on Win 10. Both \Program Files directories are protected directories on Win 10.

If the above doesn't lead to a resolution:

  • Details about the source installation, the copy destination, and the process used for the copy could be helpful as it is unclear whether this is a move to a different PC via copy or whether this is a copy from one drive to another on the same PC.
  • What are you seeing that indicates that no new mail can come in?

Question: Did you do clean install of Pegasus, and now trying to move user files?

  1. Is Pegasus running under C:\PMAIL with program in C:\PMAIL\Programs and C:\PMAIL\MAIL for the users?

What does C:\PMAIL\Programs\PMAIL.CFG file contain (or where that file is located).
Can have different setups. Is binary file but type will display basic contents, but nulls ignored.
If Pegasus was setup as single user (as I did long ago)
PMAIL.CFG has
C:\PMAIL\MAILC:\PMAIL\MAIL
hexedit view is
00000000 43 3A 5C 50 4D 41 49 4C 5C 4D 41 49 4C 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 C:\PMAIL\MAIL...........

00000030 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 43 3A 5C 50 4D 41 ..................C:\PMA

File is original 512 bytes, but if you use PCONFIG32.EXE it become 1024??

If setup as multi-user the PMAIL.CFG has
C:\PMAIL\MAIL~NC:\PMAIL\MAIL~N
00000000 43 3A 5C 50 4D 41 49 4C 5C 4D 41 49 4C 5C 7E 4E 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 C:\PMAIL\MAIL~N........
00000018 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........................
00000030 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 43 3A 5C 50 4D 41 ..................C:\PMA

In a single user setup. C:\PMAIL\MAIL contains the users info and has the PMAIL.USR File.
Mine has
PMAIL.USR
; PMAIL.USR Pegasus Mail user database.
A;Admin;Mail Administrator

In Multi-user setup C:\PMAIL\MAIL contains the PMAIL.USR file, and subdirectories for each user.
My test setup for this has 3 users
ADMIN
Jack
Jill
And PMAIL.USR file that contains
A;Admin;Mail Administrator
U;Jack;Jack Hill
U;Jill;Jill Hill

Not sure why new one doesn't have comment line at top??
There may be other setup option depending on other things.

But if program and mail directory are not using same setup, would cause problems.
Have looked at changing from single user setup to multi, and it is just moving all the files except PMAIL.USR from C:\PMAIL\MAIL to the user subdirectory, and modify PMAIL.USR.

Again, as Mr. Fluet mentioned, it would be a Windows 10 issue.
Good Luck.
