Reply with Template adds html code

Hi,

I do not know when this has started, but lately we noticed that replying to a message with the reply button, including the original text message, works as expected, headers (from, to, subject and date sent) as well as the original email body are added properly

From: "B*" b*****@n*****.com
To: "H*" h*****@h*****.com
Subject: Bitte Nicht Loeschen smile
Date sent: Mon, 23 Oct 2023 17:02:56 +0200

Test

but when replying with a template results with a template it ends up with extra text:

Some body text here...insert "Some string..."

Block of text.
Block of text.
End block of text.

I tried to change some options under Tolls menu, but I'm not sure it has to do with it as the reply button works properly.

My template:

Title bb Test

set To = "~f"
set Subject = "~s"

Body
Some body text here...insert "Some string..."

Block of text.
Block of text.
End block of text.

EndBody

include message 0 quoted keyheaders

Any idea how to prevent the template from adding all this extra text?

Thanks in advanced.

I am not sure this is relevant but what comes to mind is the configuration setting that tells Pegasus Mail to send a multipart/alternative version of richtext messages. When this is enabled, HTML formatted messages will be sent with a plain text version. That setting is in Tools > Options > Outgoing mail > Sending mail.

Thanks Brian for the fast reply, but unfortunately this didn't solve the problem.

I don't know what is creating the HTML content. When the reply is created, is the "Rich text" tickbox in the composition window checked?

There are some other configuration options that are associated with HTML. Here are two to look at.

In Messages and replies, if the "Rich (formatted)" option is On, test with it Off.

In Message formatting, test with the "Always paste plain text in preference to styled text" enabled if it isn't. This would apply if the template behaves like a paste when it creates the message, which is something that I don't know.

It's apparently the body from the message replied to and doesn't show up as HTML if replying to plain text only messages. I can duplicate it back to v4.73 at least and with both BearHtml or IER enabled. Additionally the headers aren't properly decoded if containing encoded non-ASCII characters, so it appears that any encoded parts from the message replied to aren't processed in any kind before being inserted into the editor. It doesn't help to disable any text styling options, Rich Text editor or display settings and multipart/alternative options any place you can find them either.

Changing reply options or doing it from folder vs. reader context menu keeps the HTML in there as well ... looks like another issue for David Harris to take care of as well ...

PS: Looked at it closer, and it actually really includes the whole quoted messages "as is" even including any attachments (not recommended to try unless you need some stress testing for your CPU). Notified David Harris about it.

Thanks again for all your replies.

We use version 4.80.1028, Jan 16 2022.

As I understood, it's a bug and hope it will be fixed soon.

Anyways I tried disabling IER, uncheck "Always paste plain text...", reply from folder windows as well as from message viewer window and it didn't work. Also "Rich text" is checked in the message editor window.
When reply with the reply button it works ok, but when replying with template it adds the whole html text at the end of the message.
