BearHTML: caching/autodownloading of external grafics not working properly

I have not received any sample message yet, but looking at the html tag you supplied above, I see the problem. The Url is dynamic. This means that the server creates the graphic when requested.  I decided a long time ago to do no cache'ing for these dynamic Urls, as I would then have to cope with cache and server versions becoming different. Dynamic Urls usually contain a question mark (?) indicating the submission of variable information to focus graphic content, but can also supply a Url with no filename.

As for alternatives, you can always right click on a message that is not displaying the way you like, and pass the html message to your favorite browser.

Hi,

My BearHTML 3.0.2b is set to cache Pictures (and does save something in directory "RmtFiles"), Pegasus is set to not load automaticallly.

1) When I load the pictures manually (right-click: show pics HTML), Pictures are loaded & shown correctly,

When I go to another Mail and then back to the picturemail, they are not there anymore.

I would expect that the Pics are kept and shown, once they were downloaded, until their caching time expires.

2) there are Mails which load some of its pictures automatically, but not all.

What is going wrong?

Greetings from Germany

Hello,

Unless you turn on cache'ing there will be no cache files created. You need Wantcache=yes  in Bearhtml.ini  and unless you code  cache-days=n where n is a number from zero to any number,  the default cache-days is zero which keeps cache'd files for the current day only.

Thanks for help, my settings:

Wantcache=yes
cache-days=7

Maybe it is just that i don't properly understnd the mechanism. I played around a bit with my LAN-cable and now found, that pics are cached indeed, but they would only show up a second time when I right-click-show-pics a second time. Then they are loaded from cache. It only takes 3 long seconds for the weekly Amazon advertising mail. My thought was, once the pics are cached, they always show up automatically. And faster.

And for the other thing I wait for the upcoming version of Bearhtml.

Hello,

The new version of Bearhtml will probably be ready this weekend.  In the meantime would you please try this:

 1.  View an Html message with graphics.

 2.  Key in Shift + Ctrl + Y  to clear cache.

3.  Now re-open the message and download graphics.

4.  Close message,

5.  Re-open message and request graphics via right click.

Does it work from cache now?  I have had some users experience strange out of sync problems when changing versions of bearhtml. I cannot reproduce these problems myself.

The fix in version 3.0.3 for non-existent filename/file type seems to be working ok.

Hi, yes. it works like this for mails not listed in the "Exceptionlist for remote grafics" in Pegasus Options (I'm using the german version, so thats my translation).

If the sender is listed there, grafics are shown automatically with Lan connected. And don't show up when LAN is disconnected.

I would like to have grafics shown once they have been cached.

By the way, it seems everything is a bit faster today although I didn't change configuration. Don't understand that.

Bearhtml 3.0.3 is now generally available at this site in the Download Add-ons area, or at my website:  http://www3.telus.net/public/irelam

The automatic downloading of pictures is still not really working.

Sometimes pictures does show up automatically, sometimes not. Sometimes it helps using right click and show pictures, but most of the times, even this doesn't help.

Is there really no solution for that?

Please send me an example message that does not work as expected. (send to irelam@telus.net)

The strange thins is that it works for 3-10 messages (sometimes more). Then suddenly it doesn't work any more.

If I then restart pegasusmail, it works again.

It does not depend on the mails themselves.

Hi,

back from the weekend :-)

the new bear

1) does not load unwanted pics (good)

2) does load pics of permitted senders from the net but not from the cache (why not?)

+++ for the first time I found the right-mouse-menuepoint for adding the sender to the permitted remote graphics list.

@djmeydey: did you clear the cache?

I just tried again:

The first mail: it worked again.
Second mail: don't work any more.

Now it doesn't work at all any more.

It does work like this (crap):

Open a mail.
Close Pegasusmail.
Restart Pegasusmail.
Reopen the mail.

What the ****?

Is there no alternative for bearhtml??
