Pegasus Mail not connecting to IMAP mailbox on qmail mailserver

OK, glad it's now working. :)

OK, glad it's now working. :)

Hi,

I have problems with Pegasus Mail and IMAP on my ISP's mailserver lately. When trying to connect to the mailbox, Pegasus displays the following error message:

The IMAP server that manages this mailbox or folder has reported an error during the operation you have attempted to perform.
The operation cannot be completed.

When I go to Tools/IMAP profiles, select Use offline and Done for this mailbox, then disconnect the mailbox, and then try to connect it again, everything works, only the next time I have to go through this procedure again.

As far as I know, the mail server uses qmail. There is no problem with IMAP accounts on other servers and other mail clients can also connect to my ISP's mail server with no problem.

Any ideas? Has anybody experienced something like this before? It seems my ISP is too busy to look at the logs and try to solve the problem at his end. However, I am reluctant to migrate all my users over to Thunderbird so any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Eirys

I would create a full log at your end (checkbox on internet options) see what the actual error is reported there.

Thank you for the suggestion. An unsuccessful connection attempt leaves the following entries in the log:

IMAP connections usually create several individual log files. Is this the only TCP* file that you found?

Yes, when connection fails, there is only one TCP* file with just these lines. I selected Tools/IMAP Profiles/my profile/Connect, Pegasus displayed the error message, I pressed Done, and went to look for the log file.

I was expecting to see an error, but perhaps the server response is odd.

Are the entries in the IMAP settings or performance different for this one mailbox compared to the others that are OK?

No, they are the same. However, the problem is solved now, I sent the two logs to my ISP and either they gave him a clue or he just got around to dealing with it, but approximately ten minutes after my e-mail message Pegasus started working again.

Thank you for you help. I wanted to create the logs myself, but did not find the right place for doing it, only the system messages and the log of messages sent.
