My original question is now after this edit about solving the problem.

Problem solved – it will teach me to read other reported problems before posting.

See

I installed a new printer and made it my default printer (not the problem)
Microsoft installed a new update
My Pegasus mail got very slow (20 seconds to respond)

I went to my printer settings in Windows
Selected troubleshoot on the OneNote(Desktop) printer
Windows suggested I make it my default printer – which I allowed.
Pegasus now works as expected with no 20 second delays.
Changed by default printer back to my new printer.
Pegasus now still works as expected.

As with previous poster I had no problems during the time when Pegasus mail was running slow with either of my printers before or after a cold boot of the computer.

.....

I’m a long time user of Pegasus Mail and I have recently purchased new computer running Win11. I successfully installed Pegasus mail 4.8 and transferred all my data/mail boxes across from my old Win10 machine. Everything was OK for around 3 weeks with fast operation. Now without knowingly changing any configurations it is now running VERY slowly. There have been a number of Win11 updates from MS installed in the period since having a fast working Pegasus Mail.

When I first open Pegasus mail on my desktop it takes approx 20 seconds to open. During this time I get the Pegasus splash screen with the text “opening new mail folder…”

Once open collecting/sending email is as fast as its previously been and opening a mail folder is near instantaneous. However when clicking on any mail in the folder to read it a delay of 20 seconds is seen before the mail is opened. This is any mail in any folder. Sometimes I get the windows message that Pegasus is not responding – but mail still opens 20 seconds later.

So far a I’ve tried pruning down the number of old emails to perhaps 10% of what used to be there when it was still working fast and re-indexing folders and recovering deleted space. No change in the slow down.

Completely uninstalling the program and then checking the system for any trace of Pegasus, Pmail and IErenderer and deleting all.

On a subsequent reinstall of version 4.8, and without restoring my data, it still takes 20 seconds to open whilst showing the startup splash screen. And, after transferring my data across there is no change to the slow behaviour when opening a email.

Anyone got any suggestions as to why it gone from working fast to now stalling so badly on a machine with a SSD and 8G RAM? Pegasus is the ONLY program misbehaving – all other programs run on the machine are still fast.

Hi,

I'm trying to send an email from me to me. Even though pegasus seems to have sent it and a copy can be found in the Copy To Self folder, the email never reaches the inbox.

I checked on the web access of my email providers with 2 different email addresses and providers - email is not there also not in the junk folder. When sending email to myself via the web interface it's working - the problem is only via Pegasus UI.

For other recepients it's working properly.

Is there any way to make it work?

Thanks,
Barry

For the past few days, I have suddenly been unable to receive email from my office 365 email. Outgoing email works fine. This has happened sporadically over the past year or two and typically 24 hours later it starts working even though nothing was changed before or after. I can receive email through outlook so definitely a Pegasus issue

I have tried researching the issue and figure the most likely issue cause is to do with MFA and third party apps restrictions in Gmail and Microsoft. MFA is off though as far as I can tell. Any ideas? I am a long time user of Pegasus but I will be forced to ditch it if I can't find a solution soon.

I think it was probably somewhere on this site where I found the instructions for setting GMAIL to work as SMTP and POP. Due to some rather stupid mistakes with a mail merge and the fact that my old internet connection was changed over today I thought I had a problem with my settings and instead of making a new definition like I should have I edited the exiting ones.

I know that instructions were pretty comprehensive but I cannot find them now.

Hello
I used Pmail long time ago when I was a system administrator for Novell OS and now I'm using it as my personal mail agent, but the buttons to check new mail (send and receive) seem not working. I have to close Pegasus and open it again to check the mail.
Sending mail automatically works fine. The problem is when i hit the buttons in the UI. Please advise. Best regards

Got another email message from ebay that crashed Pegasus.
Has another of the super long lines.

Just opened the CNM file and removed the long line. Just cut it and pasted it to a badrover file. Then message opened fine in Pegasus.

The original encoded message. Is 4490 characters in size

Be aware that I have experienced crashes of Pegasus Mail that appear to be the result of clicking the "Test" button associated with the Web search URL in IERenderer 2.6.6.0 configuration. This is reproducible on both of my Pegasus Mail instances but has yet to be confirmed by another individual. Please test this and report back if you care to.

The crash does not occur for me with IER 2.6.5.18.

First, a little background.

I move emails from each of my clients into a folder for each client. Then I select a group of those emails and print them to a single pdf file.

Recently, only one of the group of selected emails is printed. For example, if I have 5 emails selected, one is printed 5 times.

I uninstalled Pegasus and reinstalled it as an update, but that didn't help.

Any thoughts on what is going on and how to deal with it?

I have successfully implemented using Pegasus v4.80 on W7 for my IMAP gmail account using David's instructions. However I am totally in the dark how to do a similar change for my Office 365 email account (from Namesco) - and it appears time is running out. Can it be done - if so how? I don't want to use gmail for my normal emails - but I don't really want to move them to Thunderbird or Bluemail etc. Pegasus has been my email since 1997.

I received a link in an html formatted email as part of an email verification process for a site.
However, whenever I clicked on it, right mouse clicked to open the link in a browser or right mouse clicked and copied the link target to the clipboard, the link content changed and did not correspond to the plaint text underlying link in the email source.
This was reproducible in Pegasus V4.80 with IERenderer 2.6.5.18 with several emails from that site as well as with the sample code (link) below. I checked the same emails and link with Thunderbird and they worked ok.

During that process the following sample link changed from:

 https://example.com/#/verify-email?userId=3D54dd1&token=3DCfDJ

to

 https://example.com/?userId=3D54dd1&token=3DCfDJ#/verify-email

Could it be a bug in the IERenderer?

Many thanks

Thomas

I've not made any change to Pegasus but suddenly this problem has occurred.

When I click on 'Send all queued mail' it thinks about it for a few seconds 'Preparing mail for sending...' and then the program vanishes from the screen as if I had exited it. The emails are not sent.

Some time back Brian Fluet did reply to my question on the spellchecker issue. It was appreciated but i accidentally deleted his response as I did want to make a reply clarification. A while back I had to drop back to version 4.73 (at least temporally) as I seemed to have a problem with 4.80. At any rate in Brian's reply he mentioned on checking before sending, the checker was just supposed to identify the misspelled words and I had mentioned something about auto checking. Hope I'm making sense but when I use the checker before sending it goes word to word BEFORE I get to the actual word I know I misspelled instead of sensing automatically. He also mentioned I may not have the program set up properly. Could anyone provide a step by step process so i can make sure its set up properly? Also to make sure it just hits only the misspelled words. As always Thank you all for what you do for old dummies like me.

While trying to explain the behavior posted by 0MrSkeezix143 I came across two things that I need some help with.

  1. In the spell checker Settings tab is the option "Commence checking automatically". This setting is not working for me. Spell checking commences automatically regardless of whether this setting is enabled or not. The manual does not contain a reference to "Commence checking automatically" but it does have a reference to "Start check automatically". I can not determine if they are the same. There isn't any reference to the spell checker Settings tab in the manual that I can find. Please give this a look and a test. I hope we don't have another spell checker related bug.

  2. AFAIK, the US English dictionary file is pmdict3us.pmd. Based on that, I tested the spell checker while that file was renamed to pmdict3_pmd.renamed. Surprisingly, the spell checker worked as expected. I eventually figured out that the US English dictionary file in v4.80 (and maybe prior), is en_US.dic and has the associated files en_US.aff and en_us_v5.dict. All of them are in \Pmail\Programs\DICTS.This may not be news to many of you but it was to me so I thought I would pass it on.

A long time user of Pegasus here (since 1999) with never a hiccup before yesterday when I updated to v4.80.

My partner and I are separate users on the same account and since the update hers crashes every time it is opened. Mine works perfectly.

She logs in, tries to read the new mail folder and it instantly shuts down. Logs in again, restores 'preview mode', it crashes again.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hello folks....sorry to bother I have a question regarding the spellchecker setup. it seems to me years ago the Pegasus spellchecker when asked (before sending) to check spelling, would identify (automatically) only what was mis-spelled. Now, unless its me, when asked to check it will go word to word until you get to the word you "think" you spelled wrong to correct. isn't there a way to automatically correct as you type along OR when checking at the end to only show what was mis-spelled. Sounds crazy but I think it used to do what I mentioned

Thanks in advance
