This is not a problem that I have ever experienced or heard of.  The only explanation that I can think of is an anti-virus/anti-malware product interfering with the successful write of the saved message.  The rule of thumb is to exclude both the Pegasus Mail executable directory (default is C:\PMAIL\PROGRAMS) and the mailbox directories (default is C:\PMAIL\MAIL and all subdirectories) from active scanning to insure no inteference by the AV product in the normal operation of Pegasus Mail.

POP3 downloads messages from a server with the option of leaving messages on the server or deleting them on download.  IMAP accesses the messages on the server with cached copies stored locally of you configure as such.

The iPad will be using IMAP whereas Pegasus Mail on the WinXP desktop is probably downloading via POP3.  I think you would know if you were using IMAP because you would be opening an IMAP profile.

Some folks experience a frustratingly long delay  while other don't and so far there is no fix for the folks with the delays.  We know that on fast, high RAM, high internet speed machines the mail download

process is significantly faster than on slower machine especially if

there is a slow internet connection.  We don't what it is about v4.7 that introduced the issue nor is there a fix.  All you can do is be patient.  Either run Pegasus Mail more often to keep the number of messages being downloaded as low as possible or fire up Pegasus Mail and then go do something else while it retrieves messages.

As for the duplicate messages, compare the headers to see if you can identify what makes one larger than the other.  That might provide a clue into what is going on.

Indeed, there is no real "folders" in Gmail, but there has to be some way to make Gmail compatible with traditional email clients; otherwise Gmail would not be compatible with any email client, neither by POP3/SMTP nor by IMAP.

For example, let's assume some form of synch between the email client and the email server in Gmail (say, by IMAP for instance), and the user moves/filters one message from the local Inbox into another folder in Pegasus (or in whichever email client). When the synch is performed, Gmail would need to understand this movement, including the folder structure presented by the email client.

Gmail claims to be compatible with traditional email clients, therefore I am assuming that there must be some way to handle these situations.

To be clear, I am not looking for synching Gmail with Pegasus; on the contrary, I only want to download specific messages and reply to them using Pegasus.

Regarding the "download only unread messages" setting, it is (or at least seems to be) not a real solution for the "Selective POP3 mail download" method (which I need). The status of each message (read/unread) as seen in Gmail (or in any other email provider) does not affect whether _Pegasus_ retrieves it or not. The setting in Pegasus translates as something like: "if Pegasus has already retrieved one specific message from the server, then don't show the same message as available for retrieval to Pegasus again". So, whether a message is classified as "read" in Gmail or not, Pegasus lists it as available for selective download.

In other words, I would have to download each and every message for Pegasus to consider those messages as "read" (from the server), which defeats the purpose of "Selective POP3 mail download" in my case (as the reason for me to use "Selective POP3 mail download" is to avoid downloading every and all messages).

I have been searching for a solution to this issue for several days and the only thing I was able to find is to remove the "labels" of these messages. I have tried different methods using the web interface, and I have triple-checked that each of these emails has no labels at all (not "Inbox", nor any "tab" label such as "Forums", nor anything else). I have tried the "archive" action in Gmail. I have also tried by adding new custom labels to these messages, and even new "child labels". I keep seeing all these messages listed by Pegasus in every new attempt to selectively download messages from Gmail.

Next, I might test what happens when sending these messages to the "trash" in Gmail, or to the "draft" (if it lets me), but these tests would not be a practical solution as a permanent and consistent method.

My goal is for Pegasus to list (for selective download) all the messages located in Gmail's Inbox, but not to list (for selective download) the messages _not_ located in Gmail's Inbox. If the Inbox "label" is not a valid method, then how?

So, here I am, asking for info / links / help / feedback / tips / ideas / suggestions from experienced users.

Oh jeez! This is embarrassing. Just figured it out. When I click the Restore Down, it DID restore down -- all the way down until the only thing visible was the 3-option tab (minimize, max, close).

When I passed the mouse over that tab, I saw that I could re-size to a visible window. 

Now, after I closed that, all succeeding opens for New msg and Reply will default back to the most previously sized window. 

You must have triggered some notion in me to try that. But in decades of using Windows, I don't know if I had ever seen what the minimum size of a "Restore down" window looked like. Now I know.

Thank you for the warning.   I was not aware the address and password were in such a file as the session log file until it was suggested, and then they seemed to have disappeared between the discarded values from 2003 and today, which is why I thought there was no problem in pasting the text lines.    I have deleted the lines mentioned, but now I can access my ISP profile to apply changes and shall be more careful in future.

I've looked in the PM Help menu and in the downloaded PMail Manual, but unfortunately  it just refered to a password for encryption of messages not the server access password.

Which version of Pmail are you using? There was formerly a problem of a red background, which was resolved in v4.62.

There is a whitepaper in the downloads area of this Community that provides details about the files that can be copied to a new mailbox directory to restore data without affecting configuration.  Find it here:

Backup your new mailbox directory before you start, work slowly, test often, do additional backups between successful steps.

Sorry, my mistake.

Found out the function only works with mail-folder to mail-folder.  My destination folder was a file-folder [:$]

Redid the folder as a mail-folder and works [8-|]

Another way to check things out.  Use Selective Retrieval on the File menu. Click the items that have a small file size for retrieval and when done click the Do It button. Then start selecting the larger messages one at a time, and repeat the Do It button. If you are lucky you will find a threshold file size.

You can then set the maximum file size to be downloaded in the POP3 profile (menu Tools/Internet Options, and click the POP3 tab. Then click the profile name that you use, and click Edit. Finally click the Download Control tab. Fill in the maximum filesize amount and click OK twice. 

Any message larger than this amount will need to be downloaded via Selective Retrieval method.

Spam level is a threshold value. If the computed spam probability exceeds this value the message is classified as spam.

Not-spam boost is a multiplier of the no spam word count. Increase if using a small data base.
