" mce_src="">hello,

I just got the following error after upgrading from 4.41  to 4.51 when I try to start the program. the startup-window's latest status is "restoring desktop layout ...", where it crashes

I am running pmail under NT4 on a socket-7 board gigabyte ga-5ax, K6-3-550 cpu.

I solved the problem with using the old iconv.dll from version 4.41
I had that problem sending any email and I had to change my WinSock33.DLL to on demand and it fixed it
Don't use On demand only with Pegasus Mail 4.61 anymore unless you have a very good reason to do so: Use Always instead (the new default in v4.61), otherwise you may encounter massive performance issues (Tools => Options => Advanced settings), there are already some reports about this on this forum ...

Thomas ,

Thanks again.

I'm not sure I fully grasp the difference between folders and trays even after reading through the relevant Pegasus help topic. I'll play around with adding folders and/or trays and see if I can figure it all out.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "delete any tray stucture" . I'm

not sure what this means. Do you mean the order in which folders are

listed?

If you use trays to store folders then the trays will be lost and you just get a listing of the folders.  The tray structure is only in the hierarch.pm.

Thank you for the suggestion -

Both, the "clear header" and "clear body" settings were set to

clear the cache on diconection.

I uncheked and recheked the boxes and restarted Pmail. Hopefully this will address the issuse. In the mean time - do you have any other suggestions ?

Thanks again,

Dave

I use SyncToy. It's one of the "unofficial" programs available from Microsoft as part of a set of Windows-tweaking tools, but it can be downloaded separately. Just install it on one of the systems, then make sure the other computer is available via network. You set up "pairs" of folders to be synched. I have a bunch of different mailboxes, as I archive them at year-end and start a new one for each new year, so I sync only the current mailbox folder. SyncToy compares that folder to both computers and moves/deletes files as needed to get the older one caught up to the newer. It also has a feature to send any files it deletes to the recycle bin so that you can retrieve them if necessary.

You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C26EFA36-98E0-4EE9-A7C5-98D0592D8C52

Best part about it: It's free. ;)

Am I correct in that this bug did not get fixed in the recently released 4.52 version?

I just tried it and it still doesn't work, but then again I could be doing something wrong on my end, so I wanted to double-check.

This may well have slipped David's mind while working on version 4.52 or he may have had other priorities, relating to Windows 7, for example. Far be it from me to speculate about this, though. All I know is that the rule used to work in previous versions but it became buggy in what I think was the 4.51 release. I'll re-enable the delete attachment rule that I had configured as soon as this previously implemented but currently unimplemented feature gets reimplemented :-)

Cheers!

700MB file? Did not know any ISP would allow for that large of an attachment, most block attachments between 10 and 20 meg in size.

But this would explain the long delay if Content Control was looking at the whole file.

Opps.  You're absolutely right.  The jpg file is 1.5 Mb.  Guess I had one of those senior moments.  We'll just blame my old and slow system, which my daughter compares to writing on stone tablets.

 Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for your comments.

"Might simply be that the path is too long" does seem to be the case. Also, long file names seem to be ok with a shorter path.

This was a means to an end of trying to use MailStore  for archiving. A different program has been suggested, in another post, that is compatible with PMail without having to save to disc first. I will trial that first in case I don't need to worry about this particular problem.

I uninstalled Pegasus, rebooted and reinstalled and migrated my old

mailbox. Everything came up nicely, but the Network Configuration

problem was still there.

The only thing I can think of is that the files are being accessed by another program at the same time pml is trying to open the files for editing.  Are you sure that your anti-virus software is not scanning these files on access?

Strange, I thought the root name was always limited to 8 characters maximum even in v4.41 and earlier, I have no idea how that worked.  By default this is the set to create a 8 character root using the  ~d~d.101, I have no idea how ~8~d.101 would work in creating a lot of messages in the queue.

~c       The full path to the file containing the message
~t       The address to which to send this message
(note: this is not necessarily the To: field)
   ~s       The message's subject field
~f       The full form of the message's "from" field
~n       The sender's user name in its simplest form
~b       The sender's bindery id, as a long hex integer
~8       The first 8 chars in the sender's username
~y       The time and date in RFC-822 format
~d       A random integer, expressed as 4 hex digits
~q       Y if this message is a BCC, N otherwise
~%name%  The value of the environment variable %name%.
~p       The user's personal name preference
~x       The name.ext ONLY of the container file (no path)
~a       The directory from which PMail was run (or base directory)
~h       The current user's home mailbox location
~w       The current user's new mail location
   ~~       A single tilde character.

Method for Archiving Mail from Pegasus using Maistore Home:

Create mbx unix folder and container.

Search for mails meeting your criteria (for example from and to dates to select old mails).

Or select mails by date within any folder

Copy mails to the mbx container.

Look in your Pegasus profile folder for that user and Mail. In that folder will see an mbx file with the relevant time and date, (it won't be named as you called it , but there will be an associated pmg file with the same name, the first line of which has your chosen folder name from Pegasus.)

Use Mailstore Home (http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home-email-archiving.aspx) to archive the mbx file directly, there is no need for any other process. It works a dream and is very fast to search for any given string, (less than 2 seconds on 50.000 mails).

If running Mailstore Home in a network environment you will need to use symbolic links to point at the real location from inside a local folder.

When finished you can delete the same mails from Pegasus and the folders you created.

(may be a duplicate post the webforum does not like Opera delete or ignore)

I had been using the beta version on a usb thumb drive without any issue until I copied the latest version onto the drive. The application is launched via a small cmd file:

cd \Pegasus\Programs\
start winpm-32.exe -ROAM

I was greeted by an error - could not become user. Strange, so I checked the pconfig and removed any reference to the drive path, which should not be needed with the -roam option.

Still no joy. renamed the pmail.cfg to pmail.cfg.old Restarted via the same cmd file. Now I was greeted with a dialog for setup as single / multiple, selected multiple filled in the balance of the information.

Now everything started properly IMAP configurations and address books all OK.

Happy once again. This is in case someone else runs into a similar problem/burp.

I've been to Tools | Options | Signatures  but I don't see anything

there for setting Top-Post.  Where exactly is that option enabled?

Huh?  Did you read the previous post where I displayed the configuration option?  When sending or replying the signature is put into the message at the top of the message right after a blank line.

Edit: OOPS, I only linked one of the screens.  Here's the other
