Using v4.80

I haven't changed anything and I can still access my email using a browser, but for the last 2 days I can't download any of the new emails. I've closed and reopened Pegasus and rebooted my computer without luck.

Is there one corrupted email that is causing this?

Thanks

I get this login script:

This morning I noticed that the Pegasus window was gone. I restarted the program, and rebooted the computer but nothing changed.

What happens is this: When I double-click on the Pegasus shortcut, the start-up window appears, but when it closes, the main window is not visible. Clicking on the icon at the bottom of the screen does not make it visible. However, the program must be working somewhere in the background, because i can hear "new mail messages" when I send test mail. Also, I can right-click on the icon in the notification area and get a "new message window"; however, I cannot do anything with it, except closing it (no clicks accepted; no keyboard events processed).

I guess something happened in the OS (Windows 10) that got Pegasus to store a faulty window state, but I do not where or what. Anyone have a clue?

I still think I am using some kind of hybrid of Pegasus; I installed 4.80 some months ago, but immediately had a nasty crash pasting something when composing a message. I then downgraded back to 4.73, but still had some problems with pasting in new messages, so I assume a part of 4.80 did survive the downgrade. For my problem in January, I assumed this information was not relevant (a correct assumption, it turned out), but this time I am not so sure.

I have been using pmail for 20+ years, and it has always faithfully recorded my sent mail. Two days ago it suddenly stopped doing so. I checked in the "messages and replies" setup, and the "copy to self" switch is still set to "On". I wondered whether it had stopped because the folder had grown too big, so went back and deleted a whole raft of old messages. Still doesn't work. What next? (And, warning, I am an old man, with simple computer skills.)

Hi,

I hope somebody can help me with the following:
Step 1. I send in Pegasus an email to myself
Step 2. I open the received email and press the "reply" button
Problem: The "to" field stays empty.

Extra tests done:
a) If I open the email in another email program and click the "reply" it seems to be filled correctly.
b) When I open an email somebody else sent me, I got a filled "To"-field.
c) When I send an email to myself not using Pegasus but another email program, and I try to reply via Pegasus Mail it gives an emtpy To field.

(I'm using Pegasus mail v4.80 for windows, build 1028 )

Any ideas how to fix this?

First of all, I accidentally posted the following under the Mercury software discussion. If an admin see that, please delete it.

Hello: I have been a staunch user of Pegasus for so long I cannot remember my first use of it. I regard Pegasus as the very best e-mail client I have ever used. Also, many of the members of my family use it.

I heartily thank David Harris for building and supporting such a magnificent piece of software.

Now, my question to the group is how do I get Pegasus to run successfully under WINE in a FreeBSD environment?

But, for now, forget the FreeBSD part. If I can get it to run under WINE, I believe it will run under any Unix-like system.

I know that one must work-around IErenderer, and at this point I am unsure how to do that. I DO know that others have been successful at this, but I have been unable to learn how they did it.

I believe I have successfully installed WINE on my system, although I still need some tutoring on how to use it.

In any case, although everything associated with Pegasus and WINE "appears" to be correct, when I attempt to start Pegasus, the system "messes around" for several seconds (proved by a clock icon appearing), but then quietly just quits with nothing showing on the desktop.

What I am trying to do is to build a Unix-like system to replace all our Windoze installations. So far, I have accomplished some very good things, and it is looking like I will eventually have what I need. But this issue with Pegasus has been a BIG problem for me.

Anyone?

Hello, I've been a pmail user for years, I'm not a programer so I'll try to describe my problem as best I can:

I've always accepted pmail as a text based email client but it's becoming harder to use because many mail messages now have embedded HTML content. Sometimes I can save the message as .HTML and Firefox will open and render it although in the past I've tried linking to the firefox .exe and pmail doesn't seem to always want to go there?. I've noticed many messages being sent now seem to be intended for mobile devices when I use a PC. I've coped with these inconveniences and saw v4.8 had been released with HTML rendering changes so I updated from 4.71.

Now my problems seem to have worsened. Consistently when receiving Ebays 'We got your order' confirmation and airline booking confirmations full of html code and links to their promotions.

Before, I saw code in messsage view and could work out main message content in Raw View. Now on 4.8 I see a blank message screen and if I try to do anything, I get the Windows 7_64 message: Win PM-32 Floating Point division by zero error. There's no Windows event app crash error logged, but that doesn't inspire me as a stable situation.

For now I'm reverting back to 4.7 because even though it doesn't render HTML content the apps don't give error messages.

I have been using Pegasus mail for many years, since at least 1996. I have moved my email from one ISP to another many times. I recently had a HD crash and have decided to reinstall Pegasus to a different location after my crash. During this process, all my mail is working just fine but I have discovered that my Help system is not. Since I don't access the help system frequently, I am not sure if it was working prior to my crash. I am using W10.

I have read the thread from Tom Barkas from 1/31/23 and still cannot get things working. The weird thing is that if I launch Pegasus from an old mailbox, the help system functions properly. But if I launch it from my currently used mailbox, it does not.

I have confirmed that if I drag winpm-32.phc onto showhelp.exe, it launches the help system. This is visible in Task Manager. However, if I try to invoke the help system from within my current mailbox, nothing happens. An entry is created in Task Manager but it contains no data on the line. Where the data should be is completely blank.

I am attaching the info screens from both mailboxes. "oliveral" (help works) is the old mailbox and "indynet" (help does not work) is the current mailbox. Besides comparing the info screens, I have also examined the PMAIL.INI files from both mailboxes. The old oliveral INI file contains some references to non existant directories. There are references to C:\PROGRAM FILES\PMAIL\MAIL\oliveral. I believe that was the recommended location for files many years ago. But I don't see how that would cause the help system to work.

Does anybody have any ideas how to get this working again?

Hello the Forum,
I have an odd issue that has recently arisen, it only happens some of the time apparently for specific messages only. Sometimes, and for certain emails received, when I click Reply and have the option ticked "For replies to HTML, preserve original's format", the original message in my reply is shown with a blue background.
I get around this "blueness" by disabling the afore-mentioned option, so it's not a huge problem, but I'd like to know if it's only me (does anyone else see this happening?) and why it happens...
Any advice most welcome!
Thanks - and best wishes,
Satch

Hi!

I have Win10, I can see and type local (slovenian) characters in mail, subject and all other locations. So I assume I have correct settings for codepage and everything.

But when I receive mail, I can not see name of file, if it has local characters.

Any idea?

After the 2022-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems update, emails in my Pegasus v4.80 are very slow to open -- 10-20 seconds instead of the pre-update 1-2 seconds (for emails without graphics). I have tried setting Compatibility Mode to Windows 8 to see if that might bypass something in the newer Windows 11 code - but no improvement.

Anyone else experience this? Any solution for restoring quick opening?

My mail provider has informed me that Pegasus is using TLS 1.0 or 1.1 when connecting via POP and SMTP. Those protocols will be discontinued in the next few weeks and it will cut Pegasus off any eMail exchange.
The minimum standard is TLS 2.0.

I can not find any setting in Pegasus where you could select the version of TLS. The only setting I can find is where you can select DirectSSL.

Any help or advice?
Thank you
