In my IMAP profile settings I only have the server and username saved, so when I load Pmail it prompts me for a password to connect to my IMAP profile. I want a similar thing to happen when I send an email (at least my first email of the pegasus session). This is how Thunderbird behaves, but I can't seem to do it in Pmail.

In the SMTP security tab, if I don't tick any authentication boxes, pmail tries to send an email without authentication. Selecting "Login to the SMTP server using the following details" only works if I fill in the username and password; if I leave the pw blank, pmail doesn't ask me for it when attempting to send an email.

The closest thing I can do is fill in the pw field before sending an email and then manually delete the pw, which isn't great.

This morning, one of my comcast email accounts began rejecting emails sent by Pegasus
{WinPMail version: Version 4.80.1028, Jan 16 2022, build ID 1028
IERRenderer 2.6.6.0}.

Error Message: "550 5.1.0 Please ensure your email address and authenticating user match when sending."

In discussion with Comcast Tech support (yes, you can get through to them if you hold your tongue right) we determined:

1 - it only effects one of my Comcast email accounts (the other one I use only rarely - it's my contact account for my own servers - it still functions)

2 - It's only if I try to access that account via Pegasus for sending email - I can use Comcast's webmail interface fine.

3 - I can retrieve email from that sending-blocked account using Pegasus.

4 - I have changed nothing with regards to this account set up or configuration on Comcast or Pegasus for at least 5 years - last change involved new "ports" (465/995) for security.

Comcast Tech support reports that it is indeed OLATH-2 related, and suggested they are going to try to "copy" the configuration "from the one account I mentioned that still works over to the account that is failing, since I am an authenticated customer account."

"They will call me back in an hour or so.."

Stay tooned.. smile

Verizon sent us to AOL e-mail but we kept our Verizon address. All was fine at first but recently Pegasus stopped connecting to the e-mail I can get it on the web but with Pegasus.

Any suggestions on how I can get Pegasus working again for my e-mail. I called AOL but they do not support Pegasus.
I know to get Thunderbird to work AOL you have to go to AOL and generate a password. I generated one for Pegasus but still no luck.

Any suggestions appreciated

Yesterday I was thinking about the process of copying mailbox data from an old Pegasus Mail installation to a new one. When I have done it in the past, I have copied the .PND files (POP3 and SMTP host configuration files) to the new installation without a thought to including the POP3 associated .PM3 file (the file that keeps a record of retrieved messages). In theory, without the .PM3 file the first POP3 retrieval by the new installation should have brought down all messages on the server. I don't recall that ever happening though. Only the messages received since the last POP by the old installation were retrieved. Can any explain this and how the .PM3 file fits into the process?

For most of '22 I have been unable to get Peg to log in to my service provider. I got some help for a while from Han, but it reverted after a month or so.
When attempting to log in Peg goes to a time-out after one second or less even though it says it has a 15 second time out.
Can anyone give me some help on this? I have been using Pegasus for about 40 years, and this problem is the worst.

This is my first post to this community, Euler German recommends I raise my questions here.

PMAIL with 2 users, using pmail since the late 1990s. The PMAIL directory and all its contents on the home PC have been copied to that PC one drive directory. Pmail successfully runs from this directory. The second PC, a laptop, sees the files in the cloud. I can start PMAIL on laptop from winpm-32.exe but it doesn't recognise any of the two users.{1}. Either of the 2 users will need to access mail when away from home on the laptop, or at home on the PC.

Can this be done using onedrive? Am I expecting too much?

{1} The user you are attempting to become (XXX) does not exist on the system.

Thanks, Tony.

My original question is now after this edit about solving the problem.

Problem solved – it will teach me to read other reported problems before posting.

See

I installed a new printer and made it my default printer (not the problem)
Microsoft installed a new update
My Pegasus mail got very slow (20 seconds to respond)

I went to my printer settings in Windows
Selected troubleshoot on the OneNote(Desktop) printer
Windows suggested I make it my default printer – which I allowed.
Pegasus now works as expected with no 20 second delays.
Changed by default printer back to my new printer.
Pegasus now still works as expected.

As with previous poster I had no problems during the time when Pegasus mail was running slow with either of my printers before or after a cold boot of the computer.

.....

I’m a long time user of Pegasus Mail and I have recently purchased new computer running Win11. I successfully installed Pegasus mail 4.8 and transferred all my data/mail boxes across from my old Win10 machine. Everything was OK for around 3 weeks with fast operation. Now without knowingly changing any configurations it is now running VERY slowly. There have been a number of Win11 updates from MS installed in the period since having a fast working Pegasus Mail.

When I first open Pegasus mail on my desktop it takes approx 20 seconds to open. During this time I get the Pegasus splash screen with the text “opening new mail folder…”

Once open collecting/sending email is as fast as its previously been and opening a mail folder is near instantaneous. However when clicking on any mail in the folder to read it a delay of 20 seconds is seen before the mail is opened. This is any mail in any folder. Sometimes I get the windows message that Pegasus is not responding – but mail still opens 20 seconds later.

So far a I’ve tried pruning down the number of old emails to perhaps 10% of what used to be there when it was still working fast and re-indexing folders and recovering deleted space. No change in the slow down.

Completely uninstalling the program and then checking the system for any trace of Pegasus, Pmail and IErenderer and deleting all.

On a subsequent reinstall of version 4.8, and without restoring my data, it still takes 20 seconds to open whilst showing the startup splash screen. And, after transferring my data across there is no change to the slow behaviour when opening a email.

Anyone got any suggestions as to why it gone from working fast to now stalling so badly on a machine with a SSD and 8G RAM? Pegasus is the ONLY program misbehaving – all other programs run on the machine are still fast.

Hi,

I'm trying to send an email from me to me. Even though pegasus seems to have sent it and a copy can be found in the Copy To Self folder, the email never reaches the inbox.

I checked on the web access of my email providers with 2 different email addresses and providers - email is not there also not in the junk folder. When sending email to myself via the web interface it's working - the problem is only via Pegasus UI.

For other recepients it's working properly.

Is there any way to make it work?

Thanks,
Barry

For the past few days, I have suddenly been unable to receive email from my office 365 email. Outgoing email works fine. This has happened sporadically over the past year or two and typically 24 hours later it starts working even though nothing was changed before or after. I can receive email through outlook so definitely a Pegasus issue

I have tried researching the issue and figure the most likely issue cause is to do with MFA and third party apps restrictions in Gmail and Microsoft. MFA is off though as far as I can tell. Any ideas? I am a long time user of Pegasus but I will be forced to ditch it if I can't find a solution soon.

I think it was probably somewhere on this site where I found the instructions for setting GMAIL to work as SMTP and POP. Due to some rather stupid mistakes with a mail merge and the fact that my old internet connection was changed over today I thought I had a problem with my settings and instead of making a new definition like I should have I edited the exiting ones.

I know that instructions were pretty comprehensive but I cannot find them now.

Hello
I used Pmail long time ago when I was a system administrator for Novell OS and now I'm using it as my personal mail agent, but the buttons to check new mail (send and receive) seem not working. I have to close Pegasus and open it again to check the mail.
Sending mail automatically works fine. The problem is when i hit the buttons in the UI. Please advise. Best regards

Got another email message from ebay that crashed Pegasus.
Has another of the super long lines.

Just opened the CNM file and removed the long line. Just cut it and pasted it to a badrover file. Then message opened fine in Pegasus.

The original encoded message. Is 4490 characters in size

Be aware that I have experienced crashes of Pegasus Mail that appear to be the result of clicking the "Test" button associated with the Web search URL in IERenderer 2.6.6.0 configuration. This is reproducible on both of my Pegasus Mail instances but has yet to be confirmed by another individual. Please test this and report back if you care to.

The crash does not occur for me with IER 2.6.5.18.
